Beginning of november 2023 my dad started complaining of severe stomach pain on and off constipation then loss of appetite and we noticed he was losing wait. I took him to the drs at beginning off December he referred him for a blood test and ct scan. The blood results came back with a high level psa of 30 and was referred to urologist under the 2 week rapid access. The ct scan showed enlarged lymph nodes and an enlarged spleen so was referred to Heamatology. This took us upto Xmas bearing in mind the pain he has been has been unbearable he lost 10kg in weight from the beginning of December till end of December can’t eat anything as the pain is unbearable dr prescribed fortisip to keep his calorie intake up. We went to see the urologist 28/12 he felt the prostate and said he needs a prostate biopsy as felt enlarged abnormal prostate. Told him his pain is unbearable that is when he told us about the lymph nodes being enlarged and spleen. I was calling daily to get him an urgent prostate biopsy which they managed to do on the 6/1. Then we had an Heamatology appointment 9/1 we sat there for 3 hours for the dr to just feel the lymph nodes and spleen and tell us he needs a biopsy of the lymph nodes which could take 1/2 weeks to come through. My dad has been through excruciating pain and he has just been left, I’ve called and cried for them to help him. They organised a biopsy of the lymph nodes for the 16/1 and a bone scan for the 18/1
we are still waiting called them this morning to see if any of the results are back. I was told only the results from prostate biopsy is back but need the others too for them to then have a mdt meeting before they call us with an appointment. I just can’t take this much more I can’t watch him in all this pain. Can anyone help me atm all I know is t3nomo
Hi Daughter 13
With all the strikes things are up in the air, although cancer patients are supposed to be a priority. Has the doctor prescribed any pain killers, I take codiene and liquid paracetamol, or co codormol two four times daily, I know it’s terrible to see your dad in pain.
If he’s finding food hard to keep down, try something like complan or something similar just to keep his strength up. Maybe porridge. You will get more replies, just keep us informed.
Stay safe
Joe
Hello Daughter13 A warm welcome to the online Prostate Community however I am sorry to see you here in the circumstances.
Right, first things first a Prostate biopsy of T3N0M0 isn't too bad - it's possibly "locally" advanced but if it's gone anywhere it's not gone to the bones or any organs and is contained in the Prostate or just a "local" spread and if it's T3a - it's out of the prostate with no spread - T3b it's only gone to the seminal vesicles - both of which I understand can be treated with "a view to be cured.
They are checking his lymph nodes - they did that with mine and "zapped" them with radiotherapy to be sure (Check out my journey by clicking on the icon of the beach).
I can't for the life of me understand where the pain is from - there must be something else going on as Prostate Cancer in the early stages is very much pain free however I agree with joeven in the post above regarding pain management.
Keep us posted as to how your dad gets on - feel free to ask any questions you have - however trivial - you are sure to get answers from the Community members who have "been there - done that"
Best wishes - Brian.

Thank you for the replies
they told me the pain is from the enlarged spleen that’s why he can’t eat or feels full from the pressure of the spleen ♀️
Dr is managing his pain with codeine and paracetamol
Aw, thanks for coming back to us with that - at least we know where it's coming from and you can both take some comfort from the fact that he's now on the Cancer Pathway and things are moving.
Keep us posted, we are with you here.
Best wishes to you and dad - Brian

I was just reading ur journey
so u think there’s hope for my dad too
Hi Daughter13.
A warm welcome and I am so sorry to hear about your dad. As Brian says, from the stats you have given it sounds as if the prostate cancer is contained and should be easily treated, provided the results from the lymph node biopsy come back negative. The issue causing your dad the problems seems to be from the spleen which is enlarged, the question is what is causing that. I have attached a link to the NHS which can explain what the spleen is.
https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/spleen-problems-and-spleen-removal/
Until this is sorted out then try and help your dad by giving him food that will not aggravate it, in other words no processed foods, sugary food and drink, fatty food and limit dairy. This is also what is recommended if you have prostate cancer. Also limit caffeine and make sure he drinks plenty of water or things like herbal teas as it will help cleanse the system.
Please come back with any questions and I hope your dad soon feels better.
Hi Alwayshope - this is a very helpful and constructive reply - I agree with your initial analysis. The link is interesting. AW
Hello Daughter13 To be honest he looks like he's going to have the same diagnosis as me as long as the lymph nodes and bone scan are clear. I would say (and don't forget I am not medically trained) going off his initial diagnosis he will be on a treatment journey but I would think "with a view to cure".
A bit of housekeeping if you can please. Will you please fill in your Dad's profile - this will stop us asking you the same questions in the future - to do this go to the chair on your home page, top right, then "profile" then "edit" and add Dad's journey to date and his diagnosis (you don't need a novel like mine).
Best wishes - Brian.

Hi Daughter13,
I am so sorry for your father suffering.
I just want to add two things to what everyone else is saying:
Firstly, he is so lucky to have you as a daughter with your amazing support. This is not something to take for granted. Many adults children these days tend to be very self centre, career oriented etc.
The second thing i would say is that you are in the most frustrating period which is the diagnostic stage. The moment this will finish and your dad will start treatment you both will all feel better. And of course there is hope! Look at all the people on this form.
With best wishes
Dafna from Brighton
