Hi..I've just joined this group. Yesterday I had my blood test results and an examination. My psa is 202 and one half of my prostate feels hard. Been referred for mri/biopsy. Been having dry ejaculation for sometime. I'm 54 years old and relatively fit..work as a gardener..trying not to freak out and stay calm.

  • Hello   A warm welcome to the Prostate Cancer Community.

A PSA of 202 isn't the best news BUT you do need the biopsy/MRI scan results to confirm your diagnosis.

My advice, as you say, keep calm, get on with life and once you receive your diagnosis come back to us and we can give you all the help you need as I have a strong feeling it's going to be a positive diagnosis.

The link below is to a cracking booklet from Prostate Cancer UK:

    https://shop.prostatecanceruk.org/our-publications/all-publications/enlarged-prostate-diagnosis-treatment

You will find plenty of other reading material there. If you have any questions, however trivial, just ask, you will get answers.

If it helps you can read my 2 year journey from diagnosis to now by clicking on the icon of the beach.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Hi Machno

Welcome to the group, if you have questions then we do our best to answer them. As Milibob has said, 202 is not the best score, that does not mean things are up in the air, things have moved on fairly quickly about treating PC, with more coming out all the time.

Once you’ve had all your tests and scans, your team will format a treatment for you, remember they’ve seen and done this hundreds of times, your welfare is always top of the list.

PC is the slowest cancer so try not to stress although it’s easy saying this, my PSA was 893 and I’m still here, so trust in your team and stay positive, try and have a few questions ready to ask, take someone with you, remember it’s not the plague, talk with people so they understand what your going through.

    Stay safe

    Joe

  • Thanks for your replies..still slightly in shock after yesterday..hope that I don't wait to long for my referral and trying to just carry on as normal.

  • OK I know I might be jumping the gun a bit but a big concern of mine is if I have a positive diagnosis how do I support my family. I'm self employed have 3 children and my wife is just about to finish her training as a psychodynamic counselor. We have no savings and live in rented accommodation.

  • Hi Machno

After your tests etc and you have more information, you need to speak with McMillan about your circumstances, in my case I’m incurable and I receive PIP to help with special needs etc, these are the the people you need to talk to, if there’s a Maggies centre near you even better.

    Stay safe

    Joe

  • hi machno

i'm a self employed gardener too

yeah no point in jumping the gun until u have all the facts , gleason score ct/mri and biopsy results .

when u have all these u will know what ur facing

i'm now 5yrs down the line still working although at a much reduced capacity than i was .

the first 3 yrs i kinda managed as normal and that was with 6 sessions of chemo !!

  • Hi Maachno

I am a Self Employed accountant - Gleason 9 initial PSA 182.  Apart from my original stay in hospital and a day for the TURP operation I haven't missed a day working - even my RT was in the evening.

You will be fine with the help we can provide.

    Best wishes - Brian.
