Hi everyone. This is my first post as was just diagnosed with Gleason 7 prostate cancer last Thursday,I’ll know more this Thursday or Friday after their team meeting, head is a bit in the clouds at the moment but starting to come to terms with it now
Hello Robert1 A warm welcome to the online Prostate Community - we are a decent bunch.
I am so sorry to hear of your diagnosis - the fist few months are the worst, coming to terms with the cancer (asking yourself why me?), going for tests, a biopsy, MRI scan and meetings and then waiting for results. Am I correct in thinking your MDT (Multidisciplinary Team) meeting is this Thursday/Friday.
If that's the case you should have your diagnosis confirmed and a treatment plan put in place - so if there is anything you want to ask - however trivial feel free to do so. You will get honest answers from the Community.
To help us help you (and not ask you the same thing time and time again can I ask you to update your profile with your journey to date please. To do this go to your home page, click on the icon of the chair and then "profile" and then "edit". You can read my journey by clicking on the icon of the beach - (but you don't need to write a novel!).
Best wishes - Brian.

Hi Robert. My Dad was diagnosed just a few weeks ago and we just got the results confirming Gleason 8 advanced prostate cancer with spread to bones and lymph nodes. I don't have a great deal of advice as I am also new to this journey too but I just wanted to say that joining this community has helped immensely and I learned that there is so much they can do now compared to what we sometimes read about online. All is not lost. It has helped my positivity no end which also means I can be more positive for my Dad so I just wanted to say, please do use the lovely people here as they have a wealth of knowledge and are so supportive.
Hello Robert
Thank you for taking the time to fill in your profile details to date. Based on your information I would suggest 3 treatment routes are open to you.
Hormone Therapy and Radiotherapy / Prostatectomy / Brachytherapy (not offered in all NHS areas).
Before your meeting at the end of this week I strongly suggest you make a list of your personal priorities and the pros and cons of each treatment.- side effects, recovery etc and have a list of questions ready for your team. If you need any further information regarding any of the treatments - just ask.
Best wishes - Brian.
