The area around my prostate is sore, is this normal, I have had a bone scan which was ok, I am currently getting hormone injections every 4 weeks

  • Good Morning Ali and a warm welcome to the Prostate Cancer forum.

I assume as you are on hormone injections every 4 weeks you already have a Prostate Cancer diagnosis - to help us help you are you able to let us have this please - it will be a Gleason score plus a staging TNM numbers and letters.

Personally I can't think of anyone complaining of a "sore prostate" or a sore area around the Prostate. In your case I would be inclined to tell your CNS or Consultant and see what advice they can give you.

I look forward to hearing from you regarding the above and let's hope we can help you.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • I dont have a gleason score or tnm number but the cancer has been confirmed

  • Hello Ali

Ok then, have you taken some advice regarding the sore area as suggested in my post above? May I enquire how you know you have Prostate Cancer and are already being treated with Hormones?  How did you arrive at your diagnosis and treatment plan? (have you had a biopsy and if so do you have any results?).

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • I have had a biopsy and the doc called on the phone and said it’s the most common type of prostate cancer and probably be radiotherapy but we will start on the injections, sorry it’s all I know

  • Hello Ali

OK so we know you have Prostate Cancer and although you have had a biopsy you don't know the results - that's not a problem.

So, Prostate cancer thrives on testosterone - if you have no testosterone - it can't live. The Doctor has started you on the Hormone injections to reduce your testosterone and starve the cancer of it's food. He will be combining this treatment with some Radiotherapy (probably between now and next May) and this should kill the cancer cells off for good.

Are you Ok with the above so far - do you need to ask anything else - we will try and answer your questions. Has the pain around the Prostate gone or is it still there.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Hi Ali

Could I ask how long ago you had the biopsy?

I had soreness in my perineum for quite a few weeks after the biopsy. It takes a while for it too heal up after being probed with a big needle. Not unusual I understand.

    Feel free to ask anything.

  • Hi, I had the biopsy on the 15th nov, thanks

  • Hello Ali, and welcome, great news your bone scan came back clear, I had a bit of pain caused by my prostate putting pressure on my urethra, my prostate was enlarged, I was told by my CNS what the problem was, as i wasn't sure where exactly the pain was. She suggested painkillers if it got worse, or wait for HT, "just had my second monthly jab", to take car of it , which it did. take care, Eddie

  • Thanks, I have a full body Mri next week, so I will ask then, I’m really afraid

  • Hello Ali

The full body scan - MRI - is a painless process but it does give you the answers you need to ensure you are on the right treatment path.

The hardest bit of the diagnosis process is the biopsy, you have had that, once you have the MRI results you should know just where you stand and be able to move forward knowing your full diagnosis.

I can assure you the waiting for results and a diagnosis is in my view the hardest part of the Prostate Cancer journey.

    Best wishes - Brian.
