Hi everyone, my name is Michelle, my husband was diagnosed 2 years ago and they put him on active surveillance, I am feeling like it is all starting to come crashing down, his cancer has grown, his psa is now above 10, he has a biopsy on Wednesday. He said on holiday last week that he feels like something is wrong inside of him, he then got sent for a chest xray which has come back with abnormalities.
Hi ShellyH
I have only been recently diagnosed so I dont have the experience of all the wonderful people in this group. All I can say is, if my psa was just above 10, i would be happy.
Based on what the group has told me, the doctors and nurses, there is a lot that can be done so chin up ShellyH. You both will get through whatever comes next.
Michelle, sorry you have joined our club but I am sure you are on the right site to get help. We are all different. We start at different stages and treatment is different for each guy, but someone here will be able to help at every stage.
The start of this journey is tough but together you will cope. The hard part at this point is not knowing what is happening. Once the biopsy has taken place you will be in a much clearer position to sort a way forward. My advanced Prostate Cancer was diagnosed over 6 years ago, PSA 74!
let us know how you get on and ask questions on this site. We have all been there!
Best wishes. David
Hi Shell
Sorry to hear but hopefully u can get some good advice on here.
PSA 10 is not particularly high so that shouldn't indicate very much really.
Would be good to know what they mean by 'abnormalities '.
I always think that if on AS , I was on for 4 years, then it's important to have a yearly MRI to monitor if size increasing.
U don't say when the last MRI was.
I would be pushing for a MRI scan to delve further.
Hopefully the chest x-ray is not linked to the PC, prob not with a PSA of only 10
Keep us posted when u know more
Best wishes
Steve
Hello ShellyH A warm welcome to the Prostate cancer forum. It's the place to be for help advice and general chat.
So at present he's on the diagnostic pathway, so things are happening. Once he's had the biopsy he will be given his diagnosis and the next course of action will possibly an MRI scan followed by a MDT meeting where his treatment plan will be finalised.
The start of the Prostate Cancer journey is the hardest time when you are awaiting the diagnosis, test results and a treatment plan. At the moment try not to worry too much and just be there for him. We all have our own journey as we are all different, as David2017 said above, he started his journey with a PSA of 74 over 6 years ago. I started mine 23 months ago with a PSA of 182! (You can read my journey by clicking on the icon of the beach) and I am doing fine.
I have posted a link below to a publication oh "How Prostate cancer is diagnosed" which you may find of interest.
As you find out more, please keep us updated, in the meanwhile if you have any questions, however trivial you think they are just ask -you will get answers.
Best wishes - Brian.
