I found out I have PC (Gleason 3+4) a couple of weeks ago.

Quite a 'surprise' really as I have kept a close watch on my PSA levels over the past 10 years or so and they have remained around the 1.0 mark. It is 1.03 now, so very low. Nevertheless, I had an MRI privately, (as I was aware that the PSA tests are not conclusive) and a tumour was found, contained in the prostate.

I had a biopsy three weeks ago which confirmed this.

I am having Cyberknife treatment at the Royal Marsden in early January. Can't wait (not)  Slight smile

  • Hello   A warm welcome to the online Community - we aren't a bad bunch!!

Well even though you have a low PSA you appear to be in control of your PCa journey and know just where you are going (well The Royal Marsden!). keep us posted, please as to how it goes and enjoy Christmas and the New Year.

If you have any questions for the Community feel free to post them.

    best wishes - Brian.

  • Thank you Brian

I have been lucky in the sense that I appear to have caught it relatively early. That was down to pure luck however, and that does make me a little angry. It shouldn't be down to luck but to a proper programme of testing for men over a certain age, say 60, 65, whatever.

I understand the reasons why that dosen't happen of course, (cost, capacity etc.) but I could have been kidding myself I was fine with a low PSA while all the while the tumour developed.

Anyway, I will get off my high horse and yes, I will keep the forum updated.

My next appointment in a couple of weeks is to have gold markers inserted!

  • Hello

I am 110% with you as to testing. I was 66 years old - never been in hospital - and bang - admitted with kidney failure caused by an enlarged prostate causing me to retain urine and the enlarged bladder crushing my kidneys. PSA on diagnosis 182!! (You can read the entire story by clicking on the icon of the beach by my name!).

You keep on that high horse - I am with you on that one.

I hope the gold markers go well.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Hi  paulo100  and another warm welcome from me. Regarding screening i could not agree more with Brian and you, i used to be in healthcare for many years and it was something we were talking about 20 years ago. I do not know the reason why only everyone, others and me, ever talked to from consultants down were 100% for it. good luck with your treatment. Brian got a bowel cancer test kit last week so a little progress. horse stable and bolted came to mind. take care.

  • Hello

got a bowel cancer test kit last week so a little progress. horse stable and bolted came to mind. take care.

Yes it must be very exasperating to receive a test kit for a cancer you already have!!  At least we do get tested for it and as there is a National Cancer Register you would have thought some computer wizz kid would be able to tell it who already has the cancer.  No that's me just dreaming!!

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Hi Brian i actually saw the funny side, I love HT, phoned them Geordieland i think, Nice girl answered told me it happens all the time and is the worst part of the job. take care.

  • Sorry to hear of your diagnosis. Mine is a Gleason 3+4. I am waiting for a consultation to discuss treatment. I think they are talking about radiotherapy and injections.

My psa I think started at 8 ish and went upto 10 ish (I have the exact score written down somewhere).

I used to know my scores, but I think when it got upto 10 my brain decided to panic.

Anyway I'm now trying to read and learn more, so I can have an input into my treatment. And don't appear too clueless when discussing the what, where ,how and why etc.

When I had my first mri scan 2 years ago I was told I had a legion 3 mm in size, so didn't worry too much. Then as the psa increased towards 10, I went for the second mri scan and this had now increased to 2.5 cm, which was when they sent me for the biopsies (not the most pleasant experience in the world)

    Good luck for January!

  • Funnily enough Scooby is the name I get called when OH in a good mood.

Anyway on to the serious stuff

I was on AS for 4 years and my tumour size started at 3mm and increased in that time to about 1.3 cm

PSA from about 4 to about 13. I started treatment at that point, RT.

so as your tumour size is  now 2.5 cm would think u def need to start something, treatment wise/

    all the best

    Steve

  • Thanks! My tumour is 2cm.

Yes, the biopsy is not great but I have to say the hospital staff (Kingston Hospital) were great and very professional.
