Hi Everyone,
I'm now 54 years old and had a Robot Assisted Laparoscopic Prostatectomy nearly 2 years ago. Mine is a story of positive news... I was diagnosed early and had the best of care, including surgery that has been very successful.
As the title implies however, I still have questions - and primarily because I've never spoken to someone else who's been through the same operation! Seems odd I know, but I spoke to my consultant a lot in the lead up to the operation, and a little bit in the year after, but nothing since. So I've coped with the minor side effects over the last year without medical intervention, or someone to just ask questions of!
Primarily I have joined to look into discussion threads and maybe contribute where I have relevant experience, but I will also raise a question or two if I find the right place. As my father died from undiagnosed Prostate Cancer when he was 62, I feel very lucky to have been diagnosed early and treated so well by the Royal Marsden Hospital.
I'm hoping to share a little bit of positivity where I can.... so let's start by wishing everyone on here all the very best!
Hello Dean and a very warm welcome to the Prostate Cancer forum - we are a decent bunch!
It's fantastic to read that all's well that ends well ( it's sad to read about your dad - so sorry , such a young age ) and it's great that you are back to offer help and advice. Feel free to post any questions - however trivial you may find them. I am sure your 2 years post operation will bring much advice for people just starting on a similar journey to you. if you see any posts where your experiences would help I am sure your advice would bring added value.
Best wishes - Brian.

My husband had surgery 12 weeks ago and his post surgery was less than 0.01. He's on regular PSA checks now and the fact that you are still ok 2 years after surgery is indeed very encouraging and positive.
I have detailed his journey in my profile if you would like to read it.
I have joined a couple of Facebook groups and found a urology support group that we will be attending together.
It would be interesting to see what your stats were on diagnosis to see how they compare.
Thank you for caring about others who maybe going through this now.
