Hi there
It’s 3am the morning and I can’t sleep so what better time to introduce myself
I have always been fit and active, practised martial arts since I was 14, eat healthily and ride motorbikes for fun
At the beginning of June I woke up one Sunday with an dull ache in my chest and just thought it was ‘one of those things’ you get when you get older and went out for a ride later that day
Next day it was like being stabbed every time I breathed in so I went to see my GP
After treatment for a partial blockage of an artery in my right lung they put me on anticoagulants for life
I had a phone call from my GP a couple of days later
I thought they were just following up on the blood clot only to be told that one of the blood tests they did was a PSA test and my reading was 383
After MRI scan, CAT scan and bone scan the consultant told me I had prostate cancer that had spread to the bones and lymph nodes.
They couldn’t do/need a biopsy due to the anticoagulants but it was there for them to see.
I have recently started hormone and chemo and so far it’s OK apart from bone pain(see separate thread if interested)
It’s funny to be here in a way as I helped raise money for Macmillan through motorbike rallies I helped organise in the past, never thinking I would one day be typing this in the early hours of the morning
I’m a fighter and intend to keep going. I know it can’t be cured but can hopefully be controlled and that’s my goal
Anyway, that’s the short version of my story, the last 3 months have been a rollercoaster
Hello Slartibartfast. Welcome to the club - you will have to tell me how you came about that user name!!
So sorry to hear of your issues, you have been through the mill a bit. I agree with you about it being controlled and your positive attitude is 100% - it's half the battle with this cancer.
You will find we are a friendly bunch and you are most welcome to post any questions, however trivial they may be - or just general conversation.
I wish you well on your journey - please do keep us posted.
Best wishes
Brian.

Hello Brian.
I asked the same question on Slartiblartfast's other post re Bone Pain. Apparently it is from 'the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy'. By coincidence we were watching Pointless last night (sad but it was raining) and a question came up about characters in the book. I shouted out Slartiblartfast much to my husband's disbelief. A tick to me when it was pointless.
Hope you don't get the storm we are currently having in Greece but I think it is heading towards Turkey.
Hello Alwayshope
Well that answers my question, I am am not a fan of things like "Hitchhikers Guide" so I would never have got that!!
We are in Ovacik just outside Oludeniz (that's the beach on my icon) on the South Coast. Monday and Tuesday afternoon/evening we had thunder and lightening but no rain and wind. A friend has sent me some photos from his hotel on Skiathos - very sad - my advice to him was to build an Ark!!
We are 32c today and it's sunny and clear for the rest of the week. I hope it gets better for you and blows over soon. I wouldn't fancy your drive for chemo in the storm.
Best wishes - Brian.

Thanks Brian.
Next round of chemo is in 2 weeks time so should be back to nice sunny weather by then.
Slartiblartfast. Can I suggest you put the information on your profile page as this gives a baseline of where you are now in your journey and makes it easier to refer back to when you have more questions. Normally one of the first questions you are asked on the forum is what is your Gleason score but in your case it is unavailable. Let us know how the X ray went today.
Got to the hospital at 8:30 this morning
Appointment at 9 so went for a coffee in the restaurant and resisted the smell of a full English breakfast
Have had assessment, blood tests, a chest Xray and a CT scan
So far nothing out of the ordinary apart from the pain
They are sending the results to the oncology team and I have to wait to hear back
Got home at 3pm
Can’t fault the NHS in the way I was looked after but I’m bleeding knackered now
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
