Hi. I’m Donna. My OH has recently been diagnosed with Prostate cancer. It’s frightening hearing those words. I’ve lost a lot of family to cancer so I’m anxious
Hi Donna,
Sorry that you have had to join our club, but you will get so much help and support from the amazing members here. We are a friendly group and just want to help.
It would be really helpful if you can give us some more details. Your OH's age, if it has spread, Gleason score etc. The more information you can supply, will enable those who have had similar experiences to help.
As a wife of a man who was diagnosed two years ago, I know what you are going through and how frightened you are. I was exactly the same. My advice is always attend all appointments, if possible, with your husband, as so much information can get forgotten, or misunderstood. Take notes if you need to as well.
Whilst you are in a state of shock, be comforted from the fact that prostate cancer is no longer the killer it used to be and there are all sorts of treatments now available. My husband's pc is not curable as has spread, but it is treatable. More men die with pc than from it.
We look forward to hearing further from you.
Best regards
Gina
Hi Donna I have been diagnosed with oesophagal cancer and I think my wife is worrying more than I am. I am due to start chemo soon before a major op to remove e later this year. I am anxious but all the staff at Churchill Hospital in Oxfordshire are so positive and very caring I know I'm in good hands. I think it's harder for the people around me
Oh bless you. Thanks for sharing your story. My OH is just chatting on as normal so ok trying to be positive. Let us know how your chemo then your op goes
all the best. Donna
Hi Gina. Thanks for your reply. He has Gleason of 8 and it has gone to his pelvic bone and lymph node. We have a new nurse now at our local hospital and she seems lovely. I took lots of notes today and we feel we have more info than we did before. Thanks for your advise.
I hope you are ok
Hello Donna - Welcome to the club you didn't want to join.
Well - Gina (Sidsmun) has already stolen my thunder so I can only echo what she's already said!!
Whilst you are waiting to put up your other half's diagnosis, some of us have a detailed journal of our cancer journey - this will give you some idea of how the treatment goes. You can read mine by clicking on the icon of the beach. (I did have a few other issues on the way!).
Keep us posted and ask any questions you want.
Kind Regards
Brian.

Hi Bob. OH is Gleason 8, he is 75 and apart from this and back trouble he is very healthy for His age. he is very determined to carry on as normal, whereas I’m the worrier.
Hi Donna yes of course I will. I think if more people share their experiences during treatment it will hopefully help others to cope. It's a lot to process but there is a lot of help and advice out there.
Hi Donna - Thanks for that - if he's had a biopsy there will be some group and stage numbers and letters, for example I am a Gleason 9 (5+4) T3a N0 M0. It's this set of letters and number that give us a clue where the little buggers have gone and how fast they are likely to travel, and what sort of treatment he is looking at.
As a fit 75 year old he's good and personal advice at this point would be to keep up with the exercise, walking etc as whichever treatment he's going to go down the fatigue will try and catch up with him.
Kind Regards
Brian

Hi Donna
I was diagnosed with PC just over 2 years ago aged 68 it was pretty devastating for me and my family,
Following MRI scan and various biopsies it was confirmed as low grade and had not spread therefore I was put on‘active surveillance’ I.e regular PSA checks. 2 years later the PSA levels are slowly trending upwards albeit slowly so a second MRI was carried out 2 weeks ago. The results show the cancer has not changed significantly so I await the consultant’s comments- hopefully I can continue with the active surveillance as any treatment option doesn’t seem attractive! My wife has been wonderfully supportive throughout
Hi, OH has been told this week he has advanced prostrate cancer. He has a Gleason of 8 but they didn’t tell us any other figures. Should they have done? Donna
