Hello everyone, i am new here and delighted to be a part of this community. I have a group 1 prostate cancer and on active surveillance for the moment.
Hello Santo - Well to be honest welcome - I think you are the very first person I have come across to be "delighted" to be here, most of us wish we were anywhere but here!!!
On the other hand you are more than welcome, we are a friendly lot and are happy for you to join our community.
From memory a group 1 diagnosis is where the cancer is growing vey slowly but your PSA is tested every 6 or 12 months - am I correct? If that's the case let's hope your PSA stays low and active surveillance continues for much longer.
Best wishes
Brian.

Hi Santo
I can answer the last question, first there is a test which can be done by the doctor where pardon the way I say this, the doctor doctor does a rectal search, feeling if the prostate is hard, the second is a biopsy done by an oncologist, the last is PSA although this is not that helpful unless fairly high for age.
Stay safe
Joe
Hi, thanks for reaching out. I knew about my cancer as I told my GP that I want to be tested for the prostate because of my family history of cancer. I did an MRI scan and PSA. Because my PSA result was high, the doctor suggested that I should do the biopsy mainly because of my family history because, with the MRI and the biopsy, they could not detect if I had cancer, and it happened that the biopsy result showed that there was stage 1 group cancer in my prostate tissue cell. I hope this answered your question.
Hi Santo
I agree with you 100% - A strong positive attitude is needed in dealing with this awful cancer - also a great sense of humour as there are some dark days to get through.
If it's of interest you you some of us have recorded our cancer journey to help others through the maze of terms and treatments. You can follow mine by clicking on the icon of the beach.
Kind Regards
Brian.

Hello Santo100 - I was in a similar situation to you just under a year ago, newly diagnosed, active surveillance. I found that even though as PC diagnoses go it's a pretty good one, the emotional journey for me since hasn't always been straightforward so take especial care of yourself.
Sean.
Hi Sean
That's some story there - I understand entirely the emotional side of your issues with what you have said.
If it's any help read through my journey - I agree the only pain I have had was the biopsy - the rest of the treatment down the HT/RT journey is painless. OK so there are side effects but in my case all under control, so as the advertisement says "the future's bright".
If it comes round to treatment - it's not actually too bad! I hope this helps
Best wishes,
Brian.
