This is my first post. Hello everyone. Finished treatment for stage 3 PC last June 2022 and struggling with after-effects, especially lack of testosterone that has led to osteoporosis. Only found out today I've significant spinal degeneration including a fracture at L5/S1. Bit of a shock! Has anyone else had a similar problem?
Hi Wilding Man
Hello and welcome, I've not had the same cancer as yourself but noticed you'd not had any replies yet. Therefore by responding, your post will go back to the top so that it can be seen by more members in the prostrate group.
I can understand the shock of the fracture though. I was recently told that my latest CT showed a bone anomaly which is a healing fracture. I had bone mets in the left hip and whilst waiting for treatment to start, I stood up and had the most awful pain. I can only suppose that this is when it broke as I've not had pain as bad as that since. Mine was left pubic ramus fracture. The cancer must have weakened it so much that it broke.
Best regards to you, hope you get lots of welcoming replies from your group.

Hi Wilding Man - Apologies - it looks like no one picked up your post - sorry.
Welcome to the community. I am aware of how hormone treatment weakens your bones and my GP records now show osteoporosis although I am lucky to have no symptoms. May I be so rude as to ask your age as I am shocked to read what you have gone through.
I was reading posts on here last year and a number of members advised me to request Calcium/Vitamin D tablets from my GP which I am on now.
Have you had any help from the GP or a referral to Orthopaedics for treatment?
Kind Regards
Brian.

Hi Wilding Man.
I was diagnosed with osteoporosis but that was around the time they diagnosed PÇ (about 2 years ago now) but before I started treatment for PC.
I had a fractured spine at T9, very painful. I couldn't lie down to sleep so instead slept upright in a chair. Thankfully this seems to have healed although there is still a weakness.
I have been taking Alendronic Acid tablets and vitamin D³. I have to have another DEXA scan next year for follow up.
Regards
Peter
Hi
Welcome to our group, not fractured, but I have two compressed L4 L5, strangely I’m having a scan to see wether they can do something as I’ve had them a while now. I did have an epidural which helped but only for a few months. Testosterone is what the cancer feeds on, seems they have that perticuler problem under control.
Stay safe
Joe
Thanks so much for your kind and supportive welcome, Sistermoon. I really appreciate it. So sorry for what you're going through (I read another post of yours). I can tell you'll keep on fighting and beat this thing. Good luck and go well.

Hello Brian. Thanks so much for your really kind welcome. Much appreciated. I'm sorry to hear you also have osteoporosis but glad you have what seems like a good GP. I'm waiting for the oncologists report to go through to mine, then I'll be able to have a face to face to discuss next steps. Hospital won't prescribe bone-building meds and advised that my GP should do so. Same with referral to Orthopaedics. I suspect it's a cost issue. Specialist Nurse recommended Vit.D and calcium so I'm taking those. Thanks for the tip though. I've also joined the Royal Osteoporosis Society as they seem to have a newsletter for useful advice on exercise and nutrition. I'm 69 years young, by the way!
Thanks again for the welcome and info.
Good luck and go well.
Michael
Hi Michael - It's a pleasure - we are all in the same boat so sometimes mutual support is great. The NHS is overworked and if we can help by supporting one another, well the benefits are good health and hopefully recovery from this cancer we have.
I am 18 months down the line from diagnosis and feel amazing - you can read my journey by clicking on the icon of the beach next to my name.
I like you have finished my treatment and am only a whippersnapper at 67 and three quarters but like to hang around here as they are a great bunch of guys and girls and have helped me along in the early days.
Keep us posted as to your progress and good luck.
Kind Regards
Brian.

Hi Peter, thanks very much for your very kind reply. So sorry to hear about your spinal fractures- really hope it's healing well, as you say. I've not heard of Alendronic acid tablets but willing to try anything! Hope all goes well with your DEXA scan next year.
Thanks again.
Michael
Thanks very much for your kind welcome, Peter. So sorry about your compressed vertebrae. Back pain is rotten. My testosterone is under control too so at least I don't need to worry about that for now. Just the spinal fracture that worries me most. Not a lot they seem able to do about that. Oh well, onwards and upwards!.
Good luck Joe.
All the best, Michael
So sorry Joe, didn't mean to call you Peter! My brain's never been right since chemo!
