Hi folks,
66 years of age. Just diagnosed. Gleeson 3-+3. Frequent trips to loo prompted going to Dr. DRE reported enlarged and slightly firm prostate. Urology referral. Previous PSA test, that I had requested, was 4. 1 hasn't seemed to help frequent peeing. Another drug being tried now.
MRI scan revealed lesions (9mm) rated as 3 & 4 (probable cancer). Biopsies followed. 24 taken. 10 came back positive. Told was confined to capsule.
Follow up with Urology oncology nurse (Urologists behind on their appointments that day). Because of my age suggested active surveillance stating that treatments like radiotherapy can cause other cancers.
Also had bladder cystoscopy which was clear. Disclosed to nurse that I was experiencing erectile disfunction so referral to follow for that with prescription meanwhile.
PSA retest scheduled for 1st September.
Hi NickNick101 - Welcome to the club - it's the right place to be and I can understand just why you are here.
Your MRI of 3+4 - The results being most of the cancer cells found in the biopsy look likely to grow very slowly although there are some which could grow at a moderate rate. (That's the official result for a 7 (3+4))
It's a score where, yes in my view, and don't forget I am not medically trained - you need to keep a close watch on it, I am sure if your PSA increases some further action will be required. Although it's early days and Prostate Cancer can be a slow mover, I do think your journey has started.
As for the ED - I can't comment on that one as I don't know enough about it - although being 18 months on hormone treatment I do know how you feel!!.
Please keep us updated with your progress, there are plenty of great people here who can help - You can follow my personal journey by clicking on the icon of the beach.
Kind Regards

Thanks Brian,
Just to clarify for everyone, 3 and 4 were the (PI-RADS) scoring from the MRI and 3+3 from the biopsies report scores.
Regards,
Nick
Hi Nick
Wow that's even better (if things connected with a cancer diagnosis can be better). That's a Gleason 6 - All of the cancer cells found in the biopsy look likely to grow very slowly, if at all.
So that's why they are keeping an eye on you but not taking any action yet.
Let's hope for the "if at all" bit.
Kind Regards
Brian.
