hi,i was diagnosed with stage 3a prostate cancer in April this year and am totally new to this.Just started hormone therapy with radiotherapy starting late August. I just feel lost in all of this information i have to take in and would love to chat with people going through the same as me,to pick up any info to ease me through it.

  • Hi Digi

Sorry to hear but you've come to a good place for info.

Do u have any stats which would help u get the best advice.

T3, assume just outside the gland but not in vesicles or lymph?

    Steve

  • hi,thanks for the reply.Just outside of the gland but clear evidence its beginning to move. Its not in the lymph or vesicles as of yet. I have 3 specialist nurses that i cannot get hold of with any fears or thoughts that kind of run through your head at 1am.I think i have reached the frustration stage at the moment.Alan

  • You're going down the right path , hormone treatment should hold it back until Radiotherapy starts.

Potentially still curable if just outside the gland.

Hopefully PSA and Gleeson score not too high.

    U should be ok

    Steve

  • PSA was only 4.4,which was slighty high for my age, apparantly. Fair play to my gp,bang straight on to it. i just kind of felt let down by the hospital, diagnosed then given a load of booklets to read and get on with it.I already feel better talking to someone on this forum. My Gleeson score was 7,i feel good about the treatment plan its just all the other little things that creep into your mind. Alan

  • your stats are really quite low, non aggressive type, Think once u get a date to start the RT you'll feel better , hopefully in a few months will all be behind you

    good luck

    Steve

  • Thank you for taking the time to reply to my query,it means alot,Alan

  • The only thing that puzzles me slightly is that your PSA near normal and a low Gleeson doesn't really correlate with a stage 3.

Now obviously this is good news but I could be wrong.

Just maybe be worth querying if stage 3 is correct and getting hold of a copy of the MRI report which can give u tumour size and possibly more detail about exact location

Obviously nothing extra to worry about but always worth checking all possibilities

    Steve

    .

  • Thanks for the heads up,like you say its worth having a delve into. My consultant is a prostate specialist, the surgeon and oncologist, whom my wife and i spoke to all gave the same diagnosos T3a locally advanced prostate cancer. the oncologist also said with the MRI reults i was T3a with one foot in T4, so they need to act swiftly. so it was Bicalutomiide for a month with my first jab of Prostap in between, with radiotherapy as said before starting later this year,Alan

  • sorry about the spelling mistakes, its my big fingers on this tiny keyboard!!!!!!

  • Fair enough, sounds like got it just in time
