Hi all... I had prostate removed by robotic surgery back in Feb 2022....but they made a mess of it..my bowel was damaged in the procedure and I ended up with a STOMA (still waiting for it to be reversed !!).

After my 1st post surgery PSA test was 1.9 I underwent a PET scan and was then told by the consultant that they had problems getting the Prostate out, it had been damaged resulting in residual cancer cells being left in the prostate area. I have also recently found out that my seminal vesicles are still in place ? was told these should have been removed ?. Two pieces of information that the consultant had/has kept from me from day 1 !!!

I have been on 3 monthly PROSTRAP since last August and all blood tests have shown 0.01..happy with that but sometimes the side effects just wipe me out..

Anyway talk is now about Salvage RT..but a recent MRI has come back inconclusive..

ANYBODY ELSE BEEN IN THE SAME BOAT ???

    Hi

Hello soldier, I'm sorry to read that your surgery resulted in a stoma. Although we're advised it could be a possibility when we sign the consent form, we never think it will be us. Well, I thought that about cancer as well, come to think of it. If you want to read my profile you'll see that my story wasn't straightforward either. It's a good idea to write a profile yourself as it saves you repeating yourself and helps others when comparing treatments etc. Just click on my username to read mine.

There was talk about salvage chemo with me before the pet CT found bone and lung mets. I was told that my cancer was unpredictable and had acted out of the ordinary, also that I didn't fit the usual patient profile. Since being part of this forum, I've come to learn that MRI or/and CT prior to surgery is the norm and I had neither. I often wonder if it had been investigated properly at the start, would I still have ended up as stage 4. You live and learn and it's too late now but it is still frustrating to think that it was assumed to be a simple cancer without proper investigation.

I'm not sure if I've answered your question but I hope you get some answers re the MRI. Best wishes for the RT

  • sorry to hear 914, you've been thru a lot.

At least PSA at .01 so one bit of good news,

They do seem to have had a lot of difficulty because of op or they just did a poor job.

If the latter it could be worth getting a second opinion, you could ask your GP to refer you somewhere else or go private just for an opinion but you would need to get hold of copies of the MRI's to take with you, u can request them.

Salvage RT is an option but think u need to get a more conclusive MRI to help u decide.

Good luck, let us know how it goes

  • Hi 914 Soldier, sorry to read about your situation. I had recurrence a year after surgery and one of the areas was a seminal vesicle remnant so I guessed they couldn’t remove all of the seminal vesicles. Hopefully someone can confirm that or explain it.

Your recent MRI was bound to be inconclusive I think because you are on hormone therapy and this has pretty much stopped the cancer in its tracks for now. I had all my pre salvage radiotherapy done before hormone therapy started for that reason. Hope you get a way forward on this.
