Hi all
My partner is having RP next week. He's had all the relevant information and is prepared but I wondered if there were any tips from those of you who've already had the surgery. What to expect. What helps. What to remember. How you feel now. etc.
Many thanks
Had my RP on Tuesday afternoon. A bit spaced that night but come Wednesday wasn't feeling too bad, apart from the large bore catheter they use. Takes a bit of getting used to. Came home Wednesday afternoon , with the anaesthetists words in my head ... take your pain killers for a week even if you think you don't need them. Don't stop taking them too early and find you made a big mistake. Similarly don't try lifting anything remotely heavy , or pulling chairs around, that will hurt. Otherwise I'm just sore and bloated and trying to kick start the bowels back in to action.
He had his on Tuesday too. Lots of shoulder pain at first, but that's eased. I fed him stewed apples and plums and that seemed to help the bowels!
Had my RALP last weekend, came home Monday. Very bruised and tender, was sooooo happy when I went to the toiletIts definitely a club I recommend not joining but one we have had to.
I wish others a speedy recovery and long life. X
Hi. Can you tell me what this wives group is please. My husband goes in tomorrow for a prostatectomy.thanks
Hi Nessy
It's a US site as well.
Search, Prostate cancer wives talk and support group.
Americans are a bit strange
Good luck to hubby. I am a week into my recovery, going OK at the moment. Catheter out on Thursday
Hi. Thanks for replying , i will have a look. Have you got on ok with the catheter and were you given a stand to put it on for night time? Glad it all seems to be going ok for you. Ness
Hi
I have got on ok with it.
Make sure it stays clean!
I got a hook device, which works well on the side of the bed, I sleep on the right side of bed so attach bag to right leg. I tend to sleep ok. I’ve had a couple of bad nights early on, but nothing major. I had some bleeding with tiny leakages when I managed to go to toilet, I was told this was normal. Keep stools soft.
I have taken it easy for the first week, and have a lovely wife. It’s a crap club to be a member of, but don’t suffer in silence.
p.s expect some mega bruises, I wasn’t prepared for them, down my right hip and my genitalia.
Good luck to both of you x
