Hello

I am new to this site. My husband has prostate cancer for the second time.

Just need to feel im not alone, thinking too many negative thoughts.

  • Hi Bella, no you're not alone there are several wives and partners on here. I'm sure someone will come along soon. Please ask any questions you might have as someone here will have been there and probably have an answer.

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery and today is a gift.

  • Hi Bellageorge - Welcome to the club you didn't want to join - but you are in the right place to get support, both moral and support with your husband's journey.

I am not an expert in PC being diagnosed a second time but it must be a shock - I do know there are some posters on here who are in the same boat as you - I am sure they will respond to you. All I can say to try and help with your negative thoughts is that PC is a slow growing cancer and if it's been diagnosed again you must also also be receiving some treatment for it.

To enable us to help - do you have some more details - has the prostate been removed? Has he had radiotherapy, Do you have his Gleason Scree etc?

And as Seamus has posted above whilst I have been typing (I don't know how he does it - he always steals my thunder!Laughing) You are not alone.

    Best wishes - Brian

  • Thankyou Brian and Seamus !

He is having chemo with HRT injections.

Not had prostate removed, no radiotherapy needed...thankfully.

  • Well then, he's in good hands. There are side effect to both treatments but we all react differently to them. I can't comment on the chemo but I have been on HT for 16 months (only another 15 months to go!!) and should you wish you can follow my journey and see the side effects for me by clicking on the icon of the beach.

I wish him well with his treatment. You two stick with us - we aren't a bad lot - if you are feeling low, want to ask anything or just want a chat -there's always someone about and apart from PC we do talk about other "stuff".

    Keep us posted.

    Kind Regards - Brian.

  • You have been through the mill  !

I wish you well. I will keep posting.

  • Hi Bellageorge

Bad news having it a second time, being here is a good step, you’re never alone, as long as you talk to us. We will always reply. I’ve been on here for over six years, I know what your going through as my wife, who’s my carer stresses out daily, try to get positive again, you can do it for your husband.

    Stay safe

  • Hello Bellageorge

sorry to hear of your husbands diagnosis and your own very understandable distress. I can well appreciate how gutted you must be feeling.

my husband was diagnosed last autumn, started hormone therapy in November and had 20 sessions of radiotherapy finishing 4 th March.  I cried buckets all the way through and was also very very angry!

since March we’ve gradually both been picking up the threads of life again and feeling better about things.  What particularly worries me is that I know there is a 30% chance of recurrence. What comforts me is that I watched a utube video at some point which talked about prostate cancer recurring. In the video it was stated that prostate cancer is best looked on as a long term condition like diabetes. Even if it can’t be cured , it can be managed. This put things in perspective for me and made me realise that there are people out there with really horrible cancers which can’t be cured and can barely be managed for any length of time.

I really hope this might help you feel less alone, have fewer negative thoughts and, most importantly, have hope. I also hope your husband tolerates the chemo and hormone therapy well and that you will ultimately find this has bought you something we fear losing so much - more happy times together x

  • Hi Bellageorge, you are not alone. Many here including myself have had prostate cancer recurrence.

    Best wishes to you both.
