I had a PSA test which was high for my age I’m 59 and the reading was 4.45 so off I went for an MRI two weeks later, a couple or three weeks after that I’m in for a Biopsy ( hmm that was dignified !) I’ve met the surgeon he says it’s all systems go if the bone scan I had on the 30th March comes back clear so fingers crossed, tomorrow I’m booked in to meet the oncologist/radiation guy to see what he says… so that’s where I’m up to, I’m trying to be a bit Zen waiting for the bone scan results but …. It’s difficult .

  • Hi and welcome.

Waiting is the hardest part - aside from the initial diagnosis. Every stage seems to have a 2 week gap before anything else happens!

Yes the biopsy is fun - not. I was particularly thankful that the nurse said the consultant only wanted 3 samples but she was going to take one for luck. Hilarious!

I think being a bit Zen is the way to go. I took the view its out of my control and I've just got to take things as they come.

    Good luck in your journey.

    Regards

  • Ottocat, as Stuart said, the waiting is the hardest part.  How true.

Are you leaning towards surgery or Radiotherapy?

I was 57 when I was diagnosed, Gleason 2+4,(7), T2, bone scan clear.  I started on t.he Hormones and Radiotherapy option (unsuitable for surgery), don't regret a thing.  Now I am 13 months into Remission, hormone free, still dealing with ED and Fatigue, but that's a small price to pay.

Let us know what you decide.

  • Hi Steve I’m leaning towards surgery I think as it’s what my father had and he has been clear for years now ..he is almost 83

I’m 3+4 7 but there looks to be a break into the seminal vesicles so it’s T3b but the surgeon says that shouldn’t be a problem if the scans are clear

    1. Got dressed up and went to an antique fair this morning … took my mind off it nicely … I’ve lost weight ..my wife has me on a vegan diet JoyJoyJoyJoy
  • Hi Ottocat. Think it is a great idea to loose a bit of weight if you are going for surgery, particularly if you are like me, a bit porky. My consultant advised it was a good idea as it makes surgery easier and seemed very pleased I achieved quite a weight loss and went from obese to overweight (wish I could have done more). Six months post op and I'm still lossing weight slowly. I am intent on never going back to being obese.

  • Hi Static - Just read your profile - well done with the weight loss - it's hard I know - I've just joined the "too fat" club and must do something about it!! My BMI came out as 30.1 which makes me obese. Quite a shock as I have two dogs, do a lot of walking and and not a lazy person. I think any one like you who loses weight need a pat on the back - I think I am about to find out how hard it is to get back to "normal" although I was never a stick insect!!

    Keep up the good work.

    Brian.

  • It's great you have lost weight ... Besides anything else you must feel good for it  ...I'm 6'1'' tall and usually 12.5 stone... I'm down to just under 12 ... I'm a postman so get quite a bit of exercise...but I've cut out all the crisps scribble I used to eat walking round and the cakes and stuff people bring into the depot!!

  • Brian, can I join the "too fat club"???

    Steve (SteveCam)

  • And me!

  • Stop it you two! I will  get in  (more) trouble - yes I am over weight, yes i am in the Gleason 9 club but flippin heck I am trying - don't start. One slip of the keyboard and I am in trouble - that's it I am off for my tea - Roast gammon, spuds and all the trimmings with a glass of wine.

You are all magic and I love the banter. - I will start my diet tomorrow - or do we need a new thread - the TOO FAT CLUB?
