Hi everyone. New to the group and seeking some guidance and/or reassurance from anyone who may have gone through similar circumstances to my husband. He was diagnosed last year, following a PSA score 12, with gleason 9 prostate cancer. Scans showed it was Stage 3 N0 M0. He had surgery to remove his prostate in November, but his first PSA test since, in February this year, gave a result of 3.5. He has had a choline PET scan and we are awaiting the results. I am concerned as to what the scan might show. Has anyone had such a score post op first time around? Thanking you in advance.
Hello Dido67, sorry to read about this situation. I had recurrence after a year and ended up having salvage radiotherapy plus hormone therapy. A choline PET scan and MRI picked up local recurrence in the prostate bed and seminal vesicle remnants. Much will depend on the results of the scan. If the PSA is being produced within the pelvis then radiotherapy plus hormone therapy will be an option. If there are distant metastases then lifelong hormone therapy plus possible chemotherapy or Abiraterone or Enzalutamide might be needed. It is a very worrying time for you both.

Thanks for replying Ido4. I am sorry to hear you had a reoccurrence too. I think I am just a little shocked that my husband's first reading after a prostectomy was so high. Reading through some of the stories, most people seem to have a reading much lower initially, and then it unfortunately rises. I am hoping it was a fluke reading, as the surgeon said the operation went well. No doubt we will find out soon enough what's going on, but I am a worry bee and hate the waiting.
Hello Didi
the waiting for results is the hardest part of the PC journey. For us worriers it can be absolute torture. I hope your worries are unfounded. It does seem, though, that your medical team have jumped very swiftly on this and that, although you are concerned about what might be, should take reassurance that they are acting swiftly and before matters get out of hand.
do let us know how you get on and I really really hope you can post some good news!
Hi worried wife, so sorry for the delay in replying to your kind message. I am a real worrier, but we will find out more next week as my husband has a face to face meeting with his consultant. I am praying for the best news which is that it remains contained. Fingers and toes are crossed!
