Hello. I was diagnosed in September 2021 with advanced PC that had spread to some lymph nodes. I'm on ADT and so far am doing ok - my PSA has come down and the side effects are not so bad at the moment, except for ED and loss of libido. I wish that I had known about this forum when I was first diagnosed and it is reassuring to know that it exists if and when I have any problems or have to consider other treatment options.

I have put more information on my profile. Initially, things were very very bad mentally and I ended up being given powerful psychiatric drugs plus electroconvulsive therapy despite my strong objections and distress and despite having no history of mental health problems before the diagnosis. So perhaps my experience can help make the case for proper support at the time of diagnosis and immediate help during a mental health crisis.

I am not sure how active I will be on this forum as I now want to get on with my life and not dwell more than I have to on having cancer, but I have read through some of the posts with great interest.

  • Hi Jon, welcome to the MacMillan PC forum. It looks like your cancer treatment is going very well and your PSA is at a very low level. I’ve read your profile and am shocked you had to go through so much regarding your mental health. I hope things remain good for you.

  • I too have read our profile and seen your website. What a dreadful ordeal you had to go through and cannot believe this can still be happening in this day and age. However, you do seem to be doing really well and as Ido4 mentions, your psa is very low. I hope you continue to cope both mentally and physically.

  • Hello Ido4. Thanks for your good wishes. I am fine now despite psychiatrists assaulting me with drugs and shock therapy when I finally got help. The reasons for my recovery are the obvious ones of having time to come to terms with the diagnosis, meeting my oncologist and finding out about my treatment, starting a relationship with someone who accepts my condition and trying to eat healthy food, exercise, and get enough sleep.
