Husband recently diagnosed with Stage 4 Prostate Cancer.

My Dad has a Gleason score of 10 which is the highest. We don’t know if it has spread yet..we will find out with his scans in the coming weeks, praying it hasn’t spread. You’re so right in that the first few days after initial diagnosis are the most heartbreaking. It doesn’t help that the doctor quite grim in the prognosis and wasn’t helpful in sharing treatment options or hope since right now we need to see the full picture and scans are next. 

I’m so happy to hear your husband is living his normal life and I really hope I can say the same in a few months’ time about my Dad. Sending you lots of love back and wishing your husband a strong journey to better health. 

Hi, sorry just seen this.

He is still with us, albeit with even more health issues. HIs psa has risen since my last post and he is now on Bicalutamide as well as Prostap injections. He has had two stays in hospital in the last year due to falls and then during the first 7 week stay got sepsis. He had to go to a reablement ward near us as he wasn't even able to walk.

However, he came out fitter and stronger than before and was doing well till he fell again and fractured his lower spine. Four more weeks in hospital and found to have heart valve problems. Through all this, the biggest problem he faces is incontinence and fatigue.

Your dad may not be curable but it is definitely treatable, so do not despair.

Just want to draw your attention to another thread going on under ' a question for the wives' . This will cheer you up no end! People that a year or so ago where in your dad situation talking about planning holidays where to go and what to see! This is really amazing, have a read through this thread to the end and you will see that people life are carry on even with incurable PC.
