Hi, I’m new on here, just been diagnosed prostate cancer and having prostate removed 9th February.
I’m English but living in France so hope it’s ok to be on here…I don’t speak French (I know I should) so not many, if any, support options here.
I have to admit I’m feeling anxious and a bit scared …. I know it’s a very treatable cancer but im finding it hard to cope with knowing it’s in my body …. Im hoping these feelings are normal and will pass.
I’m wanting it out of my body but anxious about the after effects.
Hi Blue58, I know exactly how you feel, I've been the same, wanting this thing taken out!
I was initially convinced surgery was my best and only option, for the reason above but my cancer has now come through the "capsule" and after researching more, I've decided on HT followed by RT.
It's important to remember, we're all different, having different diagnosis, personal circumstances and coping mechanisms that all play a part in facing up to the PC challenge.
You can read my journey so far on my profile and suggest you start your own profile, it can be a useful record for you and others in this forum.
Believe me, once you get your head around the whole PC thing and particularly reading others accounts of their experiences, then the anxiety will ease. PC is very common and well treatable and thousands of us men are "living with it" and have lived with it for many years.
I'm assuming your age is 58, if this is the case then age is on your side for the surgery plus any therapy treatment's that are necessary later.
If you start to research for yourself, my only advice is to try and limit the time you spend doing this and have some other distractions otherwise it can become all consuming!
I wish you all the best in your "journey" and please keep us up to date with your progress.
Cheers, Graham (Grampy74)
Good Morning Blue58
Welcome to the club you didn't want to join!
Well Graham has taken the words right out of my mouth and stolen my thunder!
He's right we are all different - if you click on Oludeniz Beach you can see my profile - PC isn't like a cut you can put a plaster on and watch it heal, you can't see it and need to believe in the professionals and have as much support as you can from others - I know - I've had the help I need here. Ask what you want and you will get answers.
Good luck with your personal journey.
Au revoir and Bonne chance (I knew French lessons 50 years ago would come in useful!!).
Brian.

Hi,
sorry I’ve not got back, my psa was only 6.7 and Gleason 3+3 so not so high but it’s in 3 places so urologists said it’s best to come out.
however I returned to the uk for a visit last week and ended up having emergency surgery for a perforated appendix which had added complications when they tried to remove it using keyhole surgery, it was stuck to other things including a mesh I had for a previous hernia so they needed to cut me open to remove the appendix which had become gangrenous.
so now my prostate surgery has been put back a month causing me more worry
You've been thru a lot, can u face another surgery.
I had at least 2 but possibly 3 tumors before starting on RT.
Think it all depends on sizing, if small IE 3-8 mm them RT is still an option for you.
Your stats are low.
Don't be forget a surgeon will generally push for surgery.
Good luck
Steve
Is HiFU an option, it's less invasive, I ask because I think HiFU first started in France but I might be wrong.
I was diagnosed 3+3, 12 out of 18 cores cancerous after the first biopsy, a second scan and targeted biopsy showed 3+4. Some HiFU treatment end of Oct 2022. It's early days but recent PSA dropped to 3.49 (from 4.4 and 5.14 Feb 2022).
Hi Blue,
Thoughts are with you. I had RALP (Robotic-Assisted Laparoscopic Radical Prostatectomy) 12 days ago now. Operation went well and and was out the next day. What nobody mentioned was the constipation (drugs) or the soreness of my penis (caused by the catheter)! Fortunately I am fine now and having the catheter out in a couple of days time. In fact today is the first day I feel normal. Hurrah!!
I understand that everyone has different reactions, but having some mild laxative and some KY jelly (medical grade if poss) in the cupboard would have made this 2 weeks a little more comfortable!
Take Care,
Wallyyyy
