my partner of 45 years, age 66 is to undergo brachy therapy on 18th January, at Guildford. Anyone tell me anything about this therapy please. Thank you
Hi Kipro
There are two kinds of brachytherapy, HDR , high dose rate, LDR, low dose rate.
LDR is perhaps more usual , radioactive seeds are implanted in the prostate and over time kill off the cancer cells.
HDR is where a radioactive property is inserted via tubes into the prostate, these are removed afterwards.
There is a lot of info online about these two procedures and it is worth reading for more detailed info.
Best wishes
Steve
Thank you Grundo, What concerns us at the moment is our local urologists have put me
on hormone therapy, On my visit to Guildford (where the Brachytherapy will take place, they suggest the prostate has been shrunk, only within the limits for Brachytherapy. As I had a 3 month dose od HT in November, I am wondering when the time comes for the op on 18th January, will I be turned away? Desperate to hear from anyone who has had this treatment. Thank you
