Hi, my husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer 12 months ago, he was told it was terminal, we are both in our 50's and enjoy a good social life, but now I just feel  drained all the time, worrying about everything we do, I'm not one to ask for help or burden people with my worries. My husband is doing really well at the moment and is really positive were as I'm the opposite

  • Hi

Welcome to our little group, the place no one really wants to be, but great for information and help. Ok first do you happen to know what your husbands PSA, Gleason and stage is ? Men usually take this news better than their spouse, my wife was truly devastated, let’s say everyone in the urology department heard her grief.

Now I’ve been terminal for six and a half years, still here, positive and fighting best I can. You can view my profile give you some idea of what may happen.

My wife who’s my carer, worries every day, a few weeks back I fell backwards, not far from a semi standing position, I injured my wrist a little, every ten fifteen minutes, she would ask if I’m ok, it took about four days but I was nearly Ok. Without my wife who sorts my medication and doctors and hospital appointments I would be lost, as would many of us on here. Even wives who have unfortunately lost their husbands still come on and give advice and support.
Your not alone, it’s a long road just do your best to carry on as normal, stay positive, that’s a must. Listen to what the oncologist says have questions ready, go to the appointments so you both know what’s happening.

    Stay safe

    Joe

  • Sorry to hear of your worries. There's a few places you can get help. You can contact the Macmillan nurses or the Prostate Cancer UK nurses by phone, email or WhatsApp chat. Try these links:

    https://www.macmillan.org.uk/cancer-information-and-support/get-help

    https://prostatecanceruk.org/get-support/our-specialist-nurses

It appears that the PCUK phone line is currently not working so you may need to try email or chat.

If there's a Maggie's Centre at your cancer treatment clinic they are very helpful too.

    I hope that helps.

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery and today is a gift.

  • Thank you for your reply, when my husband was first diagnosed his psa was 925 now down to 5, he is at stage 5, it has spread to his bones and lungs, his meds are working and he's doing well,  I'm glad your still fighting and feeling positive x

  • Terminal or incurable?  I’m three years into my incurable journey, currently doing well except for expected side effects of hormone therapy

  • They told him its terminal,as long as the medication is working we just take it month by month, he has his psa levels done each month. Lovely to hear your doing well x
