Hello. Thank you for allowing me to join the group.
My husband was diagnosed with advanced prostrate cancer 5 years ago. He responded really well to chemo & subsequent hormone therapy.  The reason I’ve decided to join now is that the benefits are obviously wearing off. His psa level has gone from 2 to 3 in just 6 weeks; a few short months before that it had started rising from virtually nothing. We don’t yet know what comes next. He had a ct scan at the weekend, results in 6-8 weeks Confused. Waiting & not knowing is frustrating, depressing & worrying.

  • Hello SuziT,

    I'm a newbie here too.

My PSA was checked in August this year due to some symptoms that I was experiencing, the result was 39.4.

I had a CT scan 4 weeks ago, I've had no results and I don't expect any until after I have had my biopsies which will be taken this coming Saturday.

My review of the scans and biopsies won't then happen for another 2-3 weeks, so I've been waiting nearly 2 months with no news.

Yes, it's not ideal having all this time to think about what the prognosis might be, I'm also quite anxious!

Still we have to accept that this is a very common condition amongst men and there will be many other men in the queue and some who may be more urgent than me!

Doesn't help I know but I wish you and your partner all the best in getting treatment sorted as quickly as possible.

  • Thank you for your reply, I really appreciate it. You’re quite right, there are many men in a similar position & obviously many who are in a worse position. I just felt overwhelmed & a bit lost earlier today & I know my husband simply isn’t well, he’s experiencing symptoms-I’ve lived with him a long time!
i’d like to wish you all the best for the future too & hope you get whatever treatment you may need quickly. Good luck.

  • Hi SuziT

Is your husband still receiving the hormone therapy, or was it time limit.

I was on it for 3 years with positive results. My PSA is starting to rise, so Oncologist arranging ct and bone scan. Depending on results ie any further spread, then possibly back on HT.

Please feel free to read my profile on my journey so far.

    Best regards

    Mally

Don't let your good days be spoilt by the worry of a bad day, that may or may not come along.

  • Hi Mally. My husband has been on HT since his diagnosis & it’s continuing. We both felt a bit depressed to find out his psa appears to be rising more rapidly. We try do to be positive & that’s been easier til now, but we’ll keep trying & still enjoy life. Tomorrow is another day. I think it’s the not knowing what’s happening that’s difficult at the moment. Thank you.  Good luck for your results & future treatment if needed.

    Best wishes,

    Sue.

  • SuziT,

You are more than welcome here.  About the CT scan, if there is anything worrying for the Doctors they will let you know as soon as possible.

I remember last year when I was diagnosed (T2, Intermediate risk), I found out within a week.

You can always ring the hospital, you may find out the results quicker.

I can't imagine going through Chemo.  It does look like your husband has a strong woman beside him all the way (that's you Suzi).

We don't realise the toll this all takes on our partners.

    Best of luck.

  • Hi

Don't worry about the waiting - it's quite normal with PC.  My treatment didn't start for 4 months ish.
