Hi,
As a newbie to this forum, having been recently diagnosed with Prostate Cancer, I would be grateful to hear from any members who have, like me, been researching the pros and cons of EBR v Brachytherapy (LDR seed or HDR).
My intermediate PC was diagnosed in the summer this year with a Gleason of 3+4=7 T2b N0 Mx following a PSA of 10.
I have started hormone treatment and waiting for my consultation with an Oncologist EBR doctor.
Most of the literature I was given by my hospital on diagnosis deals with EDR, with little mention of Brachytherapy; but having researched LDR and HDR on various websites, at this stage I'm erring towards the LDR permanent seed route.
Is there anyone out there who has been in a similar position of having to decide which treatment was best for them and has gone for LDR treatment. Any feedback would be welcomed.
Cheers,
SeaJay
Hi Seajay
I wasn't offered brachy so went for external beam. Also I think i was a bit wary of having the seeds staying in the body long term.
RT just seemed so easy and it was really, hopefully others will post who have had brachy to give you their story.
Just do plenty of research before making a decision.
Good luck
Steve
Seajay,
Welcome to the forum nobody ever thought they'd be eligible for.
It's a massive blow, being diagnosed with Cancer. It took me a while to come to terms with it.
Talking about it helps a lot, especially in a forum where we all have the same thing in common.
You should find a few men discussing Branchytherapy. Last year when I was diagnosed, the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle didn't perform Branchytherapy anymore. It was the Hormones and Radiation treatment option for me, as I wasn't suitable for surgery.
My experiences of the Radiation treatment were quite well considering... Fatigue was major. I thought I had cracked it but the Hormones have another idea.
