Newbie Journey - Anxiety

Hello all,

I am a 74 year old living in the UK who is feeling quite anxious about what may be  going on since my doctor reported a 39.4 PSA result.

In August 2022 i had symptoms suggesting a urinary infection I took a urine sample to my doctor for analysis & he prescribed antibiotics as a precaution before knowing a result.

The symptoms cleared & a couple of weeks later my doctor confirmed no sign of an infection in my sample but a blood test reported the PSA was raised (39.4).

I had a CT scan nearly 4 weeks ago, still not heard any results as yet of the scan so feeling anxious & I have a biopsy appointment next weekend!

I'm thinking perhaps I'll get my scan results when I finally get my biopsy results, so all at the same time. Am thinking that perhaps I should call my doctor to ask about this.

Its important that I add that I don't have any of the normal symptoms at all, so I don't know what to think.

What would others say about this?

Thank you in advance,

Baler

  • Hi Baler

It is not unusual, with PC, to have no 'normal' symptoms - I fell into that category too.

I understand your frustration, in not hearing the results of your scan, but feel that, until they have the full picture, any diagnosis they give will be subject to any test they havnt yet completed.

My journey started in August 2019 and I didn't receive any treatment until the November.

I presume that you have had the physical DRE and, if so, what did they say?

PC is very slow growing, so don't worry too much about not hearing interim results. PC is a waiting game so stay positive and stick with it!

    Hope this helps

    Regards

    Trying to get fit again!
  • Thank you Stuart for your response to my post.

I haven't had a DRE or any physical examination as yet, perhaps that will come at some point.

Like you say, it's an anxious time waiting to hear & see someone to understand what the prognosis will be.

I've just got to be patient & wait like everyone else has to do & try not to over think what might be!

    Thanks again,

    Baler

  • Hi Baler. I was diagnosed in 2018. It was six months between first referral by the GP to starting treatment and this was before any COVID related delays. I didn't get a CT scan but did have a couple of MRI scans. There was a long delay between the first MRI and the ARTEMIS  guided biopsy which uses the result of the MRI scan. I didn't get the results of the MRI scan until my diagnosis appointment following the biopsy, so I think that's probably quite normal. The second hi-res MRI scan was just prior to my Radiotherapy planning scan to help with the Radiotherapy staff with the treatment.

Try not to worry too much and try to keep as fit as you can as it will help you through whatever treatment path you take.

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery and today is a gift.
