Hello, I have just been diagnosed with prostate cancer. Fortunately it seems to be a slow growing one and I am on watch and wait. Which I suppose can go hand in hand with my Leukemia which is also on w & w for which I was diagnosed in May. My Urologist today could not have been nicer, and most helpful. He said that there is a team and a CNS who will be looking after my care, which is the total opposite from my Haematologist who seemed to be annoyed that I was taking up his time and was downright rude. He must have missed the course on Doctor / Patient relationships. So here I am waiting for the next thing to bite me in the derriere.
Hi Artstudio,
You are welcome here in this forum. None tus, thought we'd be in this position.
Lots of people here, going through the same thing. You will get many questions asked about your PSA levels, type, stage. Everyone just trying to understand your position better.
Last year when I was diagnosed, I found it really hard to open up, but I could talk freely and openly in this forum.
I had been on Active surveillance for 4 years, then my PSA levels rose to the level which required attention. PSA 12.9, Gleason 3+4(7), Stage T2, Intermediate Risk. I ended up with 2 options, Hormones and Radiotherapy or do nothing. Not much of a choice really.
Started the Hormones June last year, 20 fractions of VMAT Radiation in October (every weekday for a month). Then in February this year I was told that I was in Remission.
It made it all worth it. I don't regret for a minute taking this option.
Let us know of your developments.
Take care
Steve (SteveCam)
Hi Steve,
Glad to here you are in remission, hope that you didn't get too many side effects. It's just a pain, trying to get my head around it.
Trying not to think about it too much and getting on with my life but knowing that I will be monitored better from the urology dept than I am from the Haematologist. Chester la vie.
Hi Artstudio, sorry to see you on this site but welcome anyway, bad news having 2 cancer's at the same time, but it's good both ate A/A and long may they stay that way, there's a trial going on for leukemia showing good responce, with luck it will be available if you need it.
All the best Ulls
