Hi I was diagnosed last year with early prostrate cancer I have since had a bone scan (clear) and a follow up MRI which showed similar results to the previous one a year earlier at my last blood test there was no  increase in my PSA. So everything seems OK?  Up to now I have had no symptoms at all and only got referred when the gp was concerned at elevated PSA levels in an MOT check. At my last appointment with the urologist she was happy that everything was fine and my next appointment is scheduled for May 2023.  I have been on Silodosin for 4-5.years but at the last appointment she also prescribed avodart.

As I said I have had no symptoms at all, until now. Literally overnight I have a persistent and urgent need  to pee. At night I am up 3 or 4 times.  And when I do pee it feels red hot. Is this the cancer reawakening or just a bladder infection. I have been relatively calm about everything up to now but now I am quite panicked. My next blood test is not due until November. Is it normal that symptoms come  come on so suddenly or is just likely to be an infection?

  • Hi

My feeling is an infection - PC is slow growing and not likely to suddenly appear. Also never come across anyone mentiong 'red hot pee' when discussing PC symptoms. That said I'm not an expert!

Please can you let us have your PSA numbers and I'm sure we can help.

    Regards

    Trying to get fit again!
  • Thanks for your quick response.  My wife agrees with you so an appointment with the gp seems the best way

  • Agree with Scampidoodle, sounds much more like an infection.  My husband has advanced PC. He has said in the past there is some discomfort but not what you would call red hot. Hopefully a course of antibiotics will settle it.

  • Thank you for your reply, I  am reassured that both responses seem to think it is an infection.

  • I'd get checked earlier my oh had similar symptoms and passed it off as a infection unfortunately it wasn't,now live with the regret of not going earlier, obviously I hope its a infection but never presume

  • I have now seen my gp and have been prescribed antibiotics.  I am reassured that it was just an infection and the antibiotics appear to be working. Thankyou all for your support.

  • I have just recovered from a prostrate infection, my PSA has returned to the previous low levels and I am back on active monitoring. It is so worrying seeing psa levels rise! This was my second episode of a rise the first was worse as I had an episode of bleeding on ejaculation that time and no infection to blame it on, Oh the joys.

    PJD.
  • Hi Iananmu,  any cancer is a devious ba***rd and learns to circumvent treatment plans unfortunately, prostate cancer is no different. I have learned to seek GP advice for any strange or abnormal symptoms I may develop. In my opinion it sounds like a nasty UTI you may have developed but as they say, " better safe than sorry ", see your GP.

    Take care, Tom.

  • Thanks for your response, like you I am on active monitoring. Glad to hear your PSA levels have reduced, long may it last!

  • Thanks for your response, the antibiotics seem to have had an effect on the infection. My gp was quite happy when I saw her yesterday, but she will contact my cancer team if there are any more problems. Very reassured that she is on my case.
