Hi. I’m new here as my husband has very recently been diagnosed and I want to find out as much info as I can.
He’s not very good at talking about things - so any info will help me with this and hopefully help me remain the positive one.
He’s decided to have it removed - has been told that as far as they know it hasn’t spread outside the prostate.
One question oh have for now is how does he/will he get the Gleason score?
Thanks in advance for any info x
Hi Mish
Sorry to find you here, but welcome.
I'm surprised the consultant has indicated the cancer is contained but didn't give him the stats. Maybe it was via a phone call? Anyway, I got mine, in writing from, from the hospital when I saw the registrar - this was confirmed in a letter to my GP.
Hope this helps.
Regards
Stuart
Hi Mish, sorry to hear your news. I can only go on my experience as everyone is different. After the initial shock of being diagnosed, I had no symptoms, I was diagnosed just after Christmas and had my op 5 weeks ago today. This was due to happen sooner but I got Covid.
I was assigned a specialist nurse who was really helpful and always got back to me to answer any queries, and there were many. I was told by my consultant that my cancer was contained and that being the case my condition was eminently treatable.
For me, the op and the post op experience was far less painful than I was expecting, in fact there was just mild discomfort for a couple of days. I am unable to lift anything heavy yet, but this was to be expected. Your team will advise you on the does and don’ts.
This is a difficult and scary time for you and your family, there are lots of unknowns, where you have concerns use this group, there is a lot knowledge here, contact your specialist nurse, mine were great.
Finally, you are not alone, I found this group really helpful in the early days where we were trying to get to grips with things
Take care
Yes it was by phone call - not the best way but I guess that’s the world we live in right now.
He’s had a call from his nurse specialist so at least he knows he’s in “the system” and sure he’ll meet with his Doc soon and will know the next steps.
stay strong and good luck with your fitness campaign!! We are trying to do the same!
Hi Mish. A good place to start is the Prostate Cancer UK website. Go here: shop.prostatecanceruk.org/all-publications and download the first publication in the left hand column. It's called "How Prostate Cancer is Diagnosed". It will give you a lot of background information. Please come back with any questions you may have as someone here will have experience.
Good luck with the chosen treatment path.
