I've been directed here from the "New to" group. Yesterday I got a PSA results of 5.24. I know that mostly anything over 4.0 is not good, but I recall my brother (Died 2018) would have PSA reading in the hundreds. So what does 5.24 actually mean? I'm 68, Last year I had a reading of 4.77, then one month later it was 2,36 !!! My doctors have given me an appointment in two weeks for a anal exam to gauge how my prostrate 'feels'. I do know that having a brother who had (and died from) prostrate cancer significantly increases the odd of my developing same; but I hoping for a BPH or the like diagnosis. Fingers crossed .
Hi Pegman
PSA of 5.24 on its own doesn't mean that much, its only slightly above normal. . You will need to have further tests. Wait for the exam in 2 weeks , see what happens with that and then possibly have another PSA, Depending on the result possibly the next step would be a MRI scan to see what is going on. Wouldn't worry too much at this stage , maybe nothing or even if it is probably been caught early in which case easily treatable

Hi Pegman
PSA is only an indicator not a diagnosis, as you say it could be BPH. I am 54 and had a PSA of 6 which I am told is high for my age. The Dr had a quick “look” and referred me to a specialist and I had an MRI and that should tell you what you need to know.
i think 4.5 is normal for your age so you’re only just over.
Fingers crossed for you.
