  • Hi just thought I'd say hello. My husband was diagnosed in Oct 2020 with advanced prostate cancer with widespread bone mets. Grade 5, psa 793 at diagnosis. Started with abiraterone which only lasted 1 year up to Dec2021. Since then doxetacle and cabazitaxel chemo have failed. Now on radium 223. Monthly degralix injections continue.
  • He did go to GP for prostate exam in 2018 and was refused a check..
  • Very angry, he was an athlete and avid road cyclist prior to this
  • Hi Shari, sorry to read about your husband and that treatment is failing. It is a horrible disease.

  • Hi Shari

He looks like he’s been through a lot, never heard of a grade five before, I myself have similar results as your husband.
When I was diagnosed I was of course angry, I used to have a lot of blood tests and never was my PSA checked, even with telling them some of the things I suffered with, not until I moved and changed doctors, where they soon found I had cancer, my PSA was 893 I was not happy.

I wrote to my previous doctors they said if I had a complaint to report it, I got all my reports from the doctors, a fairly big file, sent them to a few lawyers none would take the case.

I only mention this in case he has any proof of being turned down for a prostate check.

I hope the radium 223 helps him, with luck there might be a trial suitable for him.

    Stay safe

  • It is indeed, with fairly harsh treatments.

  • Hi jo

I'm glad your treatments have been going well for you. Long may that continue. I'm just hoping my husband responds to the radium and is well enough for any trials or lutetium 177.

He's not too good today after the radium but hopefully that is normal.

    Take care

  • Hi

With all treatments there are some type of side effects, I hope or we all hope the treatment keeps him going, so there might be a trial that will help. I know personally how this is affecting you both, my wife who’s my carer is petrified about me getting out the chair, when I stumble or walk awkwardly, it breaks her heart and I can imagine your going through the same thing.

I’ve said this before keep positive, tomorrow there might be a cure.

    Stay safe

    Joe

  • Hi Shari/ I just want to say hello back. I’m supporting a very close friend of mine who was diagnosed with Adnanxed stage 4 Prostate cancer, with multiple metastasis, a few months ago. We are just trying to navigate our way through appointments, tests, palliative treatment and getting our heads around understanding the disease. I was a bit nervous about coming on here, but feel that I need to not only to get support myself but also to help me to learn and understand more so that I can support my dear friend as best as I can.
