Hi all,
Hope you are well or as well as can be expected.
Was diagnosed with 3+4 Prostate cancer on 4th Feb and am currently on active surveillance waiting to find out if I'm eligible for either the Nanoknife or Hifu treatment. My initial MRI scans in Kent were not as clear as UCLH needed and so I'm having the fun of going through another MRI with a potential 2nd biopsy. Yep can't wait for that one!
Anyone got any experience of these focal treatments and what feedback, if any can you give please.
many thanks in advance
Paul

If I can't beat this, I'm going for the draw.
Meanwhile, my priority is to live while I have the option.
Hi Paul
I can maybe understand uclh wanting another scan , not sure about the biopsy as you already have a result.
Do u have any more stats ie PSa, what does the MRI report say in terms of size and location of tumour.
As has already been said about the two treatments you referred to there are no long term stats for success rates , u may be better off sticking to the tried and tested options , surgery or RT.
The latest RT offers excellent results with minimal damage to surrounding area.

SpaceOar increases the distance between prostate bowel and bladder by quite a bit claiming 90 % less collateral damage perhaps you could mention it to your consultant l believe it's now available on the NHS. As Grundo states radiation therapy has come on in leaps and bounds so much so that the radiologist has to be retrained every 2 years. Good luck with whatever you decide on .
I considered Hi Fu focal ablation but only effective on lower stages . It works by heat and only destroys the effected areas . Apparently you can have 4 tumours in the prostate the largest is the " index lesion " that's the leader if you like only that is treated and the smaller lesions die off. Sounds amazing but it's up to you and your consultant as that's who has all the info and experience.
Hi Paul,
I have also been diagnosed with localised Prostate Cancer 3+4 in Kent. Been offered Brachytherapy and RT only.
I am currently researching Focal Therapy as if suitable would have less side effects.
Keep us all updated.
Cheers
Hi All - Update (not sure if you will all see the reply as I couldn't see a way to reply on mass)
After a few weeks of back and fourth Q & A's with UCLH, Prostate Cancer UK plus other sources, I have elected to opt for low emission brachytherapy in Maidstone.
The Prostate nurses at UCLH were both very good and informative when I asked questions. The decisive factor for me was when they informed me that they currently have a 1 in 4 (25%) reoccurrence rate for patients requiring secondary Focal treatment (I was only looking at Nanoknife and Hifu) within 5 years that was enough to sway me. Couple this with the fact that if I received Focal therapy there was a good chance that I would not be eligible for low emission brachytherapy the second time around due to possible nerve damage caused by the initial foal therapy.
Wish you all good luck.
Paul
