Hello, my husband was recently diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer. I'm here to find out more, learn how best to support him and maybe meet others who are in a similar situation. Lulu
Hi can you let us have his stats please and I'm sure there will be someone on here who can help.
Regards
Stuart
Hi Lulu F
We can help in many ways, information is a priority, in what way do you want to support him ? Is he able to walk, how long has he had PC and when was it diagnosed, anything you can tell us gives us a bit of a picture.
Sorry to ask all this, you must be worried and frightened, don’t be stay positive there’s great treatments out there that can help, if you look at a few profiles this will tell you, have a look at mine or scampidoodle they tell stories and may help.
stay safe
Joe
Thank you Stuart,
We already know that it's advanced (Gleason is 4+5, T3b/4, N1, M1). He is waiting to see an oncologist and has been told he will likely be started on abiraterone. He also has nephrostomies at the moment as he has ureteric obstruction secondary to the cancer. I just suppose I want to know best how to mentally and emotionally support him going forwards and perhaps what to expect.
Thank you Joe. It's more looking how to support him mentally and emotionally going forward. His Gleason is 4+5 and he's T3b/4, N1, M1. He is waiting to get an appointment to see his oncologist but so much still seems very unknown/uncertain in terms of how effective his treatment is likely to be in slowing it down.
Hello Lulu
If like my wife you do your best to help him not dwell on what he has, staying positive is a big thing to us, helps in more ways than I can say. Treatments differ for most people, one thing though, they are effective, I presume he’s on hormone therapy, has he had any scans yet ? There will be a few pet scan, mri, x rays etc. I have had a few a year since I was diagnosed.
Arbiraterone is a great medication I’m on enzalutamide it’s equivalent, when you see your oncologist, make sure you have questions to ask, like side effects, scans, what’s the plan B if the arberaterone stops working ( which will take some time ) plus anything else you can think of write them down ready.
As my wife will admit, she worries about me on a daily basis, as I’ve had this disease for over five and a half years now, plenty of downs but the ups you take them with both hands.
Stay safe
Joe
Hi Lulu
May I ask how old your partner is ? I ask this as I wonder why chemotherapy was not offered first, unless it was to do with the urinary infection, then there’s radiotherapy again maybe when his infection has cleared. Just things to ask.
stay safe
Joe
Hi Lulu, sorry to hear of your husbands diagnosis. Here to help any way I can like everyone. Joe's advice and knowledge is very useful, my wife and I used the councilling sessions given to us by macmillian, they were brilliant even my mum and uncle used them. Take care

Paul
