Hello, my name is Ron and I've had my prostrate removed 8 days ago and I'm waiting to have my catheter taken out in 2 days time.
I would like to share my story with you, I'm 67 years old and 2 years ago I was first diagnosed with a PSA of 6 and was put on surveillance although it only went as high as 11 and after a couple of investigations MRI etc,I was given the choice of having Radiotherapy or a Removal of the prostate and if you've made it this far you would know I chose removal. At my age and being overweight it was a bit tough I would recommend anyone to loose weight before the surgery if you need to obviously. I was feeling unwell for 2 days after the operation but when I left hospital and arrived home I went through a bad spell of Nausea and ended up in bed but the next day I felt so much better and got better buy the day .At the moment my catheter is leaking slightly when I bend sit down etc so having to wear Nappies atm ,I hope this helps anyone prepare for there opperation and I wish you the best of luck for the future. RON .
Hi Truck, I had mine out last May and had similar problems my catheter stayed in for 3 weeks due to leakage into prostate area. After the catheter was removed, which was much easier than feared, then the incontinence problem set in but 10 months down the road I am down to using 1 pad as precautionary measures and now trying to regain some measure of erection but that's not so important these days. Glad your sharing your story as it really helps others and their decisions too. Best regards Graeme.
I to am 67 and had the operation a few weeks ago. I had my catheter removed just over a week ago. It was a relief and I feel like Im getting stronger each day. My main problems are I have alot of nerve pain in my penis and scrotum.
My cancer was stage 3 and high grade. Surgeon said he would need to cut the nerves on one side due to the size of the tumour. I wonder if this is the problem with nerve pain.
The other minor problem is that prior to the op I was on bicaldymide for a number of months and my nipples are painful on a night. Maybe I just need to be patient.
Happy with progress on pad issue. All these things are better than the alternative. I consider myself very lucky that it was caught. I had lymph disections which returned as negative so will keep my fingers crossed
