Hi all, I'm not sure if the question has been posted before but living with prostate cancer i was wondering what sort of foods people have been advised to avoid.
On the other side of the coin, what foods my be beneficial.
I'm on xtandi and 3 monthly prostap injunctions. I hear pomegranate is a good antioxidant and tomatoes!
Has anyone any other ideas?
Thank you.
Hi
Yes pomegranate juice is a thumbs up, tomatoes if they’ve been fried releases a chemical which is better than raw, carrots, broccoli, green tea fish prawns white meat, soup, plenty of water. No’s are red meat, sugary stuff diary, rice and spaghetti but I like brown rice so have stuck with that. There are others people will let you know.
stay safe

The practice nurse told me absolutely NO alcohol or caffeine when I had my first Prostap injection. I was on it for three years and stuck with that for the whole time. I finished my three year course in June 2021 and now have caffeine in limited quantities and a glass of wine very occasionally as I have lost the taste for both.
As joeven says avoid sugary things as Prostap will raise your HbA1c levels and can push you into Type 2 Diabetes.
Generally good advice here for healthy living. Fruit and vegetables should always be part of your diet, red meat carries a proven bowel cancer risk, and dairy is (literally) baby food. Caffeine and alcohol have been shown to be bad for you in many ways, particularly where heart health is concerned (on the whole - there are exceptions, such a glass of red wine).
On the other hand, none of this has been shown to have any significant effect on prostate cancer.
I've been living with prostate cancer for seven years now, and my diet is certainly healthier than pre-PCa. But quality of life matters too. I enjoy a coffee a day, sometimes more. I certainly enjoy a good pint of ale, and have no intention, ever, of giving it up. Or red wine, come to that.
Having cancer, especially one like prostate that means you can never completely relax in remission, is punishment enough. You only get one life - enjoy it while you can, else what's the point?
Never forget this very old joke:
A man asks his doctor: "Do you think I'll live to be a hundred?"
The doctor asks the man "Well, that depends. Do you drink?"
"Oh, no sir! I abstain from all alcohol. Coffee, too. I just drink plenty of fresh water."
"Do you smoke?"
"No, sir! Never smoked in my life, and I stay away from any place with second hand smoke."
"Do you eat a lot of sugary and greasy foods?"
"No, sir! I carefully watch my diet and caloric intake, and I'm sure to eat plenty of vegetables."
"Do you go to parties? Stay up late? Are you sexually promiscuous?"
"Not at all! Early to bed and early to rise! And abstinence is key."
The doctor raises an eyebrow at the man. "So ... Why exactly do you want to live to be a hundred?

Heinous
If I can't beat this, I'm going for the draw.
Meanwhile, my priority is to live while I have the option.
Tomatoes and Green Tea are supposed to be good. I try to have them both everyday. Personally I try to avoid cheese. Coffee in moderation is actually good for your ALP reading and Green tea for your PSA. And yes I enjoy a glass of red wine and a pint of real ale. We just learn to do things in moderation.
However it's important to remember that this is still a incurable (probably terminal) illness, so if there is something you enjoy that does not make you feel bad the next morning - enjoy!
