Hi All, Newbie here, and also the wife. Are there any women on here that seek help and support regarding husband/partners
Prostate Cancer ?
Hi our lass,
there are one or two ladies including me. My hubby has stage 4 PC with bone mets and lung and I’ve found the group an incredible support and highly informative. We just found out at the end of October but he is doing great with Hormone Therapy. His PSA down from 44.4 to 0.2 in that time frame. Have a peak at my profile.
welcome to the group,
louli
Hiya,
Newbie 32 yr old daughter here waiting results for my 71 year old dads results of various scans etc. Results of what we are dealing with will be ready in new year. Torturous waiting period to say the least. But this forum has helped me tremendously already
Hello Our Lass!! ( super name...clearly like me up North!).
There are a lot of Wife's, partners, daughters and friends on this site.
I have a 56 year old husband stage 3b ii N0 M0 on hormone therapy and booked for brachytherapy and RT in the New Year ( Feb/ March and April) dates constantly in the air due to Covid, demand etc.
Diagnosed in mid September.
I am personally amazed by the difference in treatments offered, the regime, the area differences etc. Research and ask. Never just accept what you are told. Some treatments are not offered simply becasue they are not available in that area. I get that some people may not wish or be able to travel due to age, other health conditions etc but if you can...we have been to the North East, Manchester and London and every area has different options on what they specialize in and what they do or don't have expertise in. Our 'Men' are all different so if you can ask, learn, research.
This forum has been great for guiding me ( and my husband if he would look first hand !!) through lots of thoughts, new suggestions and realities. Especially at the start when the bomb is dropped and The Wait and worry begins. Sleepless nights. Is it? Ok it is but how bad is it? Ok so it's that what can be done? when do we tell the children? That can be done but what else? Should I ch0ose this treatment or that?
Best of luck to you and your husband. Keep dipping in for support Our Lass.
Wispmydog xx
Hi oh biscuits ?
We do see some colourful names here, yours is definitely up there. If I can ask is it your dad that has PC, if so do you happen to know any of his test results ?
What will happen if he’s just been diagnosed depends on as I mentioned above, most people are started on hormone tablets, from then it’s up to what the oncologist and the team, after a discussion with your parents.
If the cancer is caught soon enough, it’s very curable, even if it’s not there are plenty of treatments that will keep him going for many a year, and if I’m still here after five and a half then there’s hope for everyone.
Being positive, being there when needed, treating him like a normal person are all important.
If you need information the nhs web site is very informative or just keep asking us questions someone’s always ready to answer.
Stay safe
Joe
haha yes, the name is from my 4 year old daughter, instead of OMG she has started saying 'oh biscuits' and it always makes me smile! My dad has had his PSA tests (12), then his MRI which showed level 5 lesions, he had his biopsy just before xmas and got the results this morning, I don't know the full details of the diagnosis yet but I am calling on my way home from work to speak to him, but I came here to try and wrap my head around things beforehand so I can be helpful and supportive rather than a worried mess when I get there! and I must admit I feel better after seeing the posts on here. I know he has been given a few options, one being the prostate removal and he needs to look through the pro's and cons of each approach. I am trying not to assume much from the very short conversation we had earlier, but I know he will want a sounding board to go through the options with so I want to be fully factually prepared, and know where to look! thank you for replying, you and others have already helped prepare me and I am starting to think a little more with my head than my heart now :) My mum lost her mum 3 weeks ago and has been having a tough time throughout the diagnosis so I want to be strong for them both
Hi Sophie Jade
Very similar position for me and the waiting period is torturous, here with you though
Hi
Well thumbs up for your daughter that’s the way to be, keep an open mind, the oncologist team have seen all this before, they will have his welfare as a top priority once all the options have been given.
Stay safe
Joe
Sounds potentially similar to my dad too. His PSA was 6.8, t3a tumour so we know its starting to escape the lining and again, level 5 lesion on one side. We are waiting for his biopsy this Friday but already had bone scan a week or so ago.
Sounds like both dad's have stage 3, which from what I've read is very treatable and potentially curable.
Unfortunately, my 71 year old londoner dad is very much like "I'm fine, I ain't got cancer"... well, literally only found out today after finding a letter pinned on my mums fridge with this info that they hadn't even looked at! So I sat down and explained to my mum that yes dad most definitely has prostate cancer, had to explain all the staging processes etc...
We want to explain this all to my dad before he sees consultant as it will come to a shock to him, at least we can explain it I guess in layman's terms, bless him.
But as I say, there are lots of options and will most likely have the ol' fellas around for lots more years to come.
Sending hugs to all :)
