Hello, I have just joined the forum. I completed four weeks of radiotherapy on 8th November and am going through a very tough time with the after effects. I was wondering how other people are getting on and if you are experiencing feeling exhausted and unwell.

  • Hi

Radiotherapy affects people in different ways, in my case it was a day of the runs. Being tired is one of the side effects, but that passes unless your on hormone tablets or injections, which also make you tired and fatigued. What was diagnosis as in have you had a biopsy ?

  • Hi Field view

My main problem was severe constipation and some tiredness.

These did go away a few weeks after treatment finished.

I assume that you r still on hormone therapy,, that could well be the reason for your issues, u don't say what they are

    Hi Joe and steve,

Thank you for replying. My diagnosis is Localised Prostate Cancer, Ca prostate Gleaason 3+4. After my MRI scan I then had a biopsy, which showed my cancer contained but nearly breaking out. My consultant recommended 4 weeks, 20 sessions, radiotherapy, no hormones and surgery not neccessary. Side effects began during treatment and got progressively worse. Since the 8th November, I really have had all that is explained before treatment and I am totally exhausted all the while.

Things are not helped with the fact that I have suffered from severe anxiety and depression nearly all of my life and have had nervous breakdowns. I know that everyone is affected differently and recovery can take weeks, months or longer, but my symptoms seem to be very severe.             David

hHi Steve, reply to you and Joe together, thank you both for the information

  • David

So if you're not on hormones U should  be slowly recovering now. I must admit I did suffer a lot with anxiety after it was all over, had some councelling which did help but probably should have had more.

I finished treatment in March 2017 and must admit the anxiety did continue for a long time.

Like yourself I have also suffered on and off throughout  my life with anxiety but possibly it helps because in some ways u are used to it.

Hope things improve and do possibly look for some help

Thank you Steve, yes I have a regular weekly call from a wonderful wellbeing lady and a very good GP. Yes, I believe that in some ways that being used to anxiety has possibly helped.  Stay safe my friend and best wishes.

Hi Joe, yes they are aware, I have been in regular contact. Basically, rest, plenty of fluid and just have to see it through. I have  contacted my GP surgery today to try and see a doctor for a check over and hopefully blood tests, but it may be a job to get an appointment.

Thank you for the message and take care.
