Enlarged Prostate - but I think it's more.

Hello,

It all started with a sharp pain at the base of my penis inside the bladder.  It eventually went away but came back 2 months later. Then I started to have problems peeing and found it hard to poo.

I kept going on but after about 6 months of off and on problems; My groin started to hurt, the pain in by bladder travelled up my urethra and my glans started to ache - squeezing it slightly I can feel a lump deep inside on the urethra and hurts when I squeeze, I went to to the Dr. and he diagnosed a swollen prostate - massive was the words he used to describe it.  He prescribed me Tamsulosin and it has helped with the peeing, but not so much with the pain and told me to go back in two weeks - that was over a month ago

I have to go back in about 2 weeks, it has been hard to get an appointment.

I know it's a long shot, but does anyone know if this sounds like cancer rather than a swollen prostate.   I would like to hear if you had any similar symptoms and what happened to you.

  • Hi  and welcome to the online community

I'm not a member of this group but noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' your post back to the top of the discussion list where it'll be more easily spotted.

It's natural to assume the worse-case scenario but hopefully you'll know more when you go back in 2 weeks.

Do let the group know how you get on

Thanks for the reply - much appreciated.

  • Hi fedup2022

I would demand a PSA test as a matter of urgency, if you haven't already had one.

In my experience, the prostate gland doesn't normally swell up for no apparent reason although it does become enlarged with age. A simple blood test to determine you PSA level should give you an indication as to whether the discomfort you are experiencing is of a more serious nature.

    Best wishes and, good luck,

  • Hi fedup2022, sorry to see you on this site, but welcome, I am not a doctor, but the reason I went to see mine was the inability to pee and the pain, initially I was diagnosed with an enlarged prostate and put on tamsulosin, so as you have been previously advised demand a psa test, for your own piece of mind.

    All the best Ulls
