PSA up to 495

Two weeks ago we found out hubby’s psa was 432, shock and horror.  He had another blood test a couple of days ago and is it up to 495.  Does this mean it’s spread to his vital organs.  We know it is in his lymph nodes and I am outside the bone scanning place waiting for him to come out as I type.  We already believe it’s in his bones.  This group is fabulous for newbies like us who know nothing much at this stage, and who are also struggling to take everything in

  • The actual PSA doesn't tell you much at all - but a rise does tell you the tests need to be done. PSA varies a lot from person to person, someone can have a low psa with serious disease, and vice versa. I'm sure there are more tests to come, then they will come up with a treatment plan.

    Hang in there!

    Heinous

If I can't beat this, I'm going for the draw.

Meanwhile, my priority is to live while I have the option.

  • Thanks for the  above.  It just seems to get worse day by day.  We had the bone scan yesterday, (we live in France so everything seems to happen quicker over here than the UK) it's spread to one of his shoulders, his spine and his pelvis.  We are having the mri on the 23rd then a biopsy then we will see what treatment he can have.  I hate this, I just want to scream and shout at everybody and say why is your life normal and my whole wold has been rocked in the space of 4 weeks..  I keep bursting into tears.  Sorry for the rant

  • Hi

Don't give up hope by any means. Mine was 413 in July with a similar diagnosis to your husbands. It is now 0.2 and I'm feeling a whole lot better. With a PSA that high your husband should now be on hormone therapy regardless of the outcome of the scans. I hope that helps.

  • It’s only natural to be shocked and devastated. I’m in Exactly the same position as you. We found out on 21st October that my hubby was stage 4 with bone and lung mets. The nurse delivered the news over the phone which was a brutal way to be told to be honest and the next day I kept breaking down in public and the next week or two I kept pulling over to side if the road in tears. This is frightening and alien to me but Only a few weeks later he has responded well to Hormone Treatments and we are now hoping and looking to the future both immediate and long term. Having come out of the shock phase and having a clear treatment plan that has worked quickly has instilled confidence that we are likely to stave this disease off for years to come. Yes I still cant believe this is happening to us and I’m still tearful at times but I’m in a much better place in just a short space of time. Try and look to the treatments available and know that you have a fuHearture. This period of limbo will end soon and so will the uncertainty it brings. Heart

  • Thanks for that boost.  Have just received an email to say that he can have a biopsy on the 14th.  Hopefully as soon as that is done he can start on the hormone treatment.  I have just read what you wrote to my husband, who just burst into tears, and said "I thought I only had a couple of months left" Thank you so so much.

  • Thank you for your kind reply.  It's people like yourself that make this horrible experience bearable. xx

  • dont worry keep positive try and carry on as you did before you got this news .

my psa wasn't as high but i have bone mets too so i'm on hormone treatment .

i'm almost at my 3yr diagnosed , but i'm still working as a gardener .

positivity and exercise are two of your best weapons in this fight

  • Awe listen we are all in the same boat and you will never be alone through this. Like you I felt the same when I found this group.
sending you big hugs and many blessings x

  • Hi my hubby’s PSA was 2900 yea that’s right !!! After hormone treatment is now down to 107.9  biopsy last tues so waiting on Gleason score and handover to onocology Dept . I believe there are lost of drugs available that can help his stiffness to his back . Hang on in there x

  • Hi

PC is different in all of us, I had a PSA of 893 and it was just in my bones, but that was me. Obviously scans tell you more, also the team that will provide his treatment, which usually starts with hormone medication to bring down the PSA and attack the cancer, from there it’s how they plan his journey.

The cancer people are great at what they do, I’m sure he will be in good hands once they have all the information.

    Stay safe
