Hi I’m new here
my husband had his surgery 6 days ago he is having sharp shooting pain through the catherta area also blood when sitting to open his bowels is this normal.
we’re going to call the specialist nurses for advise tomorrow
Hi Soaresy, I had keyhole surgery back in May and for the first couple of weeks after i did have shooting pain around the catheter area, the nurse did reassure me that this was a normal reaction of body defence against foreign bodies. They did give me some codeine tablets when I left hospital to take if I had any pains and these helped . Blood in the bag is also normal but always best to check in with the specialist nurse who I found extremely helpful whenever I had any concerns. Hope this helps a d good luck going forward. Graeme.
Hi Graeme
Thank you this has been so useful He will call the specialist nurses today. Hope your recovery is going well.
Soaresy
I echo YoungMan’s comments - it is very, very important to take plenty of laxatives to keep the bowels moving. Straining in the period post surgery risks damage to the reattached urethra.
I had quite a lot of blood and blood clots in my urine post catheter removal for a few weeks, but not whilst it was in. If hubby is bleeding when opening his bowels that needs checking I would suggest, just to be safe.
