Hello, my husband was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer a month ago and was immediately given HT. We have spent the last four weeks reading up as much as we possibly can around nutrition, the treatment and cancer themselves, side effects etc

By joining this group, I am hoping to connect with others to gain advice and support and of course when we’re a little further down the road to offer the same to others. Also, absolutely agree with the comments I’ve read so far around the waiting for results, appointments - it’s a blimming nightmare!

  • Hi Loveday and welcome to the forum where nobody wants to be.

    It would be a good idea to download the Prostate Cancer Toolkit from the PCUK website: link here.

    Please let us know your husband's PSA level, Gleason score and TNM rating as that helps us with offering advice. Please ask us any questions you may have as there will certainly be someone here who has experienced the same situation.

    Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery and today is a gift.

  • Hi

    Sorry about your husband diagnosis, it’s a hard pill to swallow. What’s his future treatments? A nightmare indeed as appoints can take time, sometimes they can take a little time.
    I do a lot of googling even now, when I was first diagnosed I trawled trough everything, wether it was here, or America ( The mayo centre ) or their PC groups.

    We all help where we can, we are not doctors, just people who have experienced different treatments and what the side effects are, plus Amy news we come across. Has he been offered a treatment ? Hormone therapy is the first attack, to lower the PSA.

    As regards things that might help, pomegranate juice, fish, white meat, red grapes, wholemeal bread, keep the sugar down where you can, supplements cod liver oil, and one called pomi-t you can look all these up. Obviously there are others but the more you look the more you learn.

    stay safe

    Hi Seamus

    Thank you for getting in touch. His results are;

    PSA; 472

    Gleason score; 4+4

    TNM; T3B  N1 M1B

    He’s due to have another PSA test this coming week, his first since the first injection given on the 17th August so fingers crossed, we’re hoping that has reduced significantly.
