Hi

My partner was diagnosed with advanced PC on 3.8.21. He had no symptoms and it was only found by having bloods done for ckd. His PSA was 187. He has started anti androgen prior to  first hormone injection on weds. We are waiting to see oncologist to plan radiotherapy and if all goes to plan start enzalutamide. His treatment is to mange symptoms only the cancer is too far for surgery. No mets are showing but highly suspicious that micro mets are present.

  • Hi PIL

Sorry to hear about your partner.

Good news no visible Mets , u never know, may still be contained. I assume that at the moment the MRI shows just that. Do u have a Gleeson figure.

Hormone therapy should get the PSa right down and hopefully Radiotherapy can help further.

    Best wishes

    Steve

  • Hi Steve

thanks for reply the Gleason scale is 4+3 the cancer speed is top end of moderate. So hoping treatment slows it down. My partner is 67 so bit of a shock that this has happened. I was diagnosed with bowel cancer 4 yrs ago at 55 in remission and due for discharge in May. Do you know if you have hormone therapy along side enzalutamide I know that drug replaced chemo. I know it’s further down the line after radiotherapy.

  • My knowledge is not that good on HT so I think I'll let someone else answer, plenty on here that should be able to help.

    Regards

    Steve

  • Hi in answer to your question about enzalutamide it is a very agressive hormone treatment, normally given to men whose cancer has spread, I have been taking it for 7 months, there are side effects but they are manageable, and the drug works very well I'm pleased to say. After you have seen the oncologist let us know how your husband is coping.

    All the best Ulls

  • Hi Pete.

I was 71 when diagnosed with PCa, Gleason 5+4=9 and PSA of 11 (rising to 15 when treatment started). T3AN0M0.

I started on Bicalutamide in September 2018 and have just completed 3 years of Prostap injections. I had 20 sessions of radiotherapy in Feb/Mar 2019. My PSA dropped to 0.4 prior to RT, dropped further to 0.1 after RT finished and has been undetectable since. My next PSA test is in December this year when things might change.

I have no experience of Enzalutamide but have tolerated the three years of Prostap injections very well. The worst side effect was hot flushes but they have been well controlled by Sage Leaf capsules and Evening Primrose Oil twice a day. It took several months to get back to full fitness after the RT sessions finished but I am now walking 20 km a week, swimming 1200m twice a week and rowing at least once a week.

I hope your partner's treatment goes well and keep in touch.

  • Hi Seamus you are so right about hot flushes, I was told to take primrose oil, but no one mentioned sage leaf, will give them a try thanks for the tip Ulls

  • Hi Ulls.

I get them from Holland & Barret and stock up when they have a " Buy One Get One For A Penny" offer.
