Hi Guys!!!

I NEED YOUR HELP, ADVISE, EXPERIENCE ETC!!!!

I had an invasive prostate cancer few years back and they removed the whole prostate gland. As a result of the removal of the Prostate gland I am now  severely urine incontinent and change 8-9 pads a day. I can't walk for long, laugh, climb stairs as I will pass and leak urine uncontrollably. As you can imagine my daily tasks are limited and the cancer has changed my life. I was only 52 when I was diagnosed.

I have had the sling operation done to lift the bladder up and help with the urine incontinence but I have seen zero improvement and if anything my condition has become so much worse since.

My Consultant Urological Surgeon has offered me the Artificial urinary sphincter surgery. I have been reading about it and I am really not sure if I should undergo a second operation. Has anyone had this surgery done? What are the pros and cons and if they would recommend?

I would appreciate any advice or help.

Many thanks

Sam

  • Hi Sam,

I've no experience of this, but I think your decision tests on two questions:

    1. If successful, how good a fix is this?

    2. What are the chances of success?

I can only imagine the devastating effect all this has had on your life, but if I was your age, if there was a reasonable chance of a real change for the better, I think I'd jump at it.

    Good Luck, whatever you decide!

If I can't beat this, I'm going for the draw.

Meanwhile, my priority is to live while I have the option.
