2018 psa level 95,  cancer had spread  to my thoracic 8 vertebrae,  right hip and sternum put on Zoladex with 6 sessions of Chemo, namely Docatexel,  mid 2019 cat scan and Mri scans confirmed that the metastases had resolved  in all areas,

Side affects of Zoladex aren't good.

I have bone pain

Loss off muscle mass

Shrinkage of the you know what's

Pain in the legs and hip

Also never knew that zoladex can cause spinal compression .

Went for a further MRI scan as I had pain in my left hip static nerve

Doctor referred me back to the oncologist, whom I had no contact with in over a year, so no blood test

The MRI scan showed that there was no cancer present, that it was  stenosis of the lower spine, with compression of L4 L5 and S1 vertebrae

Now waiting on  injections in my spine in the meantime pain is severe both hips legs and lower back coupled with stiffness in he groin area

Latest PSA is 4.6 been as low as 3 5 when I finished chemo  it was 7.1 in April 2019.

If you have any comments or a similar  experience

That would be good, main problem is the pain in my thighs and lower back pain causing Mr problems walking,  I am 59 previously very fit, and active.

If you would like more information of the journey let me know

Cheers

  • Excellent that you had a good result from the hormones and chemotherapy, let's hope that the remission continues for a long time, and that the aches and pains are not directly related, even if they are related to the Zoladex.

Are you still having Zoladex, or another hormone, or none at all?

  • Hi

Its good that the treatments had an affect on the PC side effects can be a devil, I have plenty of them it’s in my bones as well as you, but is controlled at the moment although tell my back that, what hormone treatment are you on ? I’am a bit older than you but was pretty fit did gym and excersize, but had to cut most of that out with covid closing everything down.
You say walking a problem, is that from getting up and trying to move, or are you once moving able to walk with just a little discomfort ?
not tried Zoladex I’am currently on enzalutamide does play havoc with the brain matter.

Hope you manage to get past the side effects.

    stay safe

    Hi Heinous,

    Like the moniker

Thanks for the comment yes still on the Zoladex 3 monthly at the moment

The zoladez does have the side affects that I am experiencing since starting with it in November 2018, which includes the muscle mass loss and bone pain

Also the weight gain over this time has been a problem which is another effect of this treatment.

Something I never knew about weight, according to research  I have done, for every 1 kilo off being overweight this equates to 4.4 kilos on the hips extra pressure verified by the physiotherapist  I spoke to.

I dont know if the groin stiffness is related,? I have embarked on a stretching and excercise regime to help ease this causing  considerable pain as I went to hard at it in the beginning.

As we have this issue, we just need to keep  doing our own research and share what info and experience  we get, so that it may help some one else along  the way

    Thanks Martin312

    Hi Joe,

Yes Covid was a major issue, for everyone , as well as shutting  everything down as you say,

The Chemo on reflection had an effect of rendering me unable to do any excercise which resulted in muscle  wastage  and loss, trying to build that back again is proving difficult for me, just finding the right balance, I did try and excercise during the treatment bone pain was a problem,  when the chemo finished aI was in agony for months thereafter  with the bone pain, when you can't excercise it doesn't help.

Being on Naproxen, gabapentin, tramadol, cocodomol  and also offered  morphine  at one point, I only ever take the meds if absolutely necessary

So it not all the time.

On a positive note, I am alive and working it the best way I can for me.

Thanks for the reply if you need any info from me just ask.

    Thanks

  • I didn't get bone pain with Zoladex, but I did get muscle mass loss, and went from waist 34" to 36" to 38" in eight months. I got down to 36" again by the end of my three years, and once it was over, it wasn't too hard (or too long) before I got back to 34". Powerful stuff! Let's hope it upset the PCa as much as it upset me!

    Hi,

    I was diagnosed 01/09/20

Please feel free to read my profile.

    Locally Advanced Prostate Cancer

    Aggressive/High Range

    Treatable not curable

Spread to lymph nodes deep in the pelvis.

I started Prostap hormone injections on day one.

Finished six cycles of Docetaxel Chemotherapy April 2021

Currently in the middle of 20 sessions of Radiotherapy.

Ever since my Chemo I have had increased muscle and bone pain.

Even the new knee that I had in September 2019 has gone backwards after being really good.

my legs are heavy and I get Fatigued unexpectedly.

My hips and spine are sore, but most of all of late my shoulders are extremely painful.

I have a telephone consultation as part of my radiotherapy in one weeks time.

The oncologist gave me a PSA test before radiotherapy which was 0.03 undetectable, but I'm still worried about the pain as at times it's difficult to start walking but not to bad once I get going.

I wish you well and hope that you keep strong.

Any advise would be of great help.

    Stay safe and take care
