I was diagnosed with Prostrate Cancer (locally advanced) with a PSA 5.9, Gleeson 8 and stage 4. Started on Bicalutamide for 28 days, had my first HT injection on Monday. Feeling very tired most afternoons, on waking and generally all the time. Couple of hot flush no tears yet - welcome any suggestions on what to expect. Oncologist telephone appointment scheduled for 27/9 then I suppose the radiotherapy will start
Sorry that you have had to come here but welcome to the forum anyway.
Locally advanced PCa means that the tumour has reached the edge of the capsule but may not have broken through. My diagnosis was similar to yours with Gleason 4+5=9 and a PSA of 15 when treatment started. I have just finished a three-year course of Prostap injections and had 20 sessions of radiotherapy in Feb/Mar 2019. My PSA had dropped to 0.4 at the start of RT and has been undetectable since. That may change in six months or so as the HT begins to wear off.
There are several treatments for hot flushes. Cyproterone is widely used and Provera can be very effective. I take Sage Leaf and Evening Primrose Oil capsules twice a day and every few weeks a one-day course of a homeopathic remedy of Sepia (cuttlefish ink). My GP prescribed these originally but I now buy them directly from the homeopathic pharmacy in Glasgow.
Keep in touch with us as there are lots of people on here who can offer advice.
Good luck with your treatment.
Hi
I found that the tiredness was at its worst the first few injections and after the RT finishes. I am 18 months into a 2 year course of HT and on a day to day basis the tiredness isn't too bad. That said if I try and do anything requiring stamina or strength - well difficult is all I say!
Hot flushes - as Seamus has suggested there are things on the market that may help. Personally I just take something off.
Never had a problem emotionally- but I guess we are all different.
Good luck on the 27th, ask loads of questions and take loads of notes!
Stuart
