Hi everyone, I hope you’re all having a good day.
My real name is Kevin and I’m married, 57 and live in Newbury.  I’m keen on cycling and walking my whippet and until mid May would have considered myself pretty fit.
I’ve since been diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer that’s widely spread around my lymphatic system and a few spots on my pelvic bones. PSA was in the 5.000 region ( eek ).  I’ve been given 4-6 years.
Me and my wife are starting to adapt to the idea now. I’m on hormone treatment and plan to start chemo in September. I also intend to do everything possible to confound the doctors predictions.

  • Hi Whippets

Welcome to the group, sorry about your bad news, it can hit you both like a sledge hammer, high PSA reading, but if you where very fit, it’s not easy to know you have it. How did they find out ? In my case it was in my shoulder everyone thought I had a frozen shoulder and treated it as such. But I’am the same as you Gleason 9/10 stage 4 my PSA on detection was 893, but had mine nearly five years now.
like you I intend to find as many obstacles to thwart this disease greens, drinks, food and supplements. The hormone therapy attacks the cancer and also reduces the PSA.

Keep being positive it always helps.

    Stay safe

    Joe

  • Thanks for your heartening reply Joe, It was found out as my knee had swollen up, turned out a lymph node was pressing on an artery ( or vein ).  I’m also going down the diet and supplements route.  I hope that even after 5 years you’re still able to keep active.

  • Hi

Its always something you would never think of a swollen knee, who would associate that with PC, just point you to a couple of things, pomegranate juice, fish, chicken, try to avoid surgery stuff check this one on the net I take it called pomi-t  and red grapes. Just a few good things with a bit of excersize.

Over the years I’ve slowed fifty plus per cent I just listen to what my body tells me.

    Stay safe

    Joe

  • So sorry to hear about your diagnosis Kevin, I am in a similar situation only my spread is in my spine and pelvis. I am on hormone treatment, enzulatimide and due to start radio therapy.

    Regards

    Paul
