Sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I have no idea whether or not your cancer will spread and, even if it does, chances are neither will anyone else know with any certainty the rate or the impact of that spread.

When I received my diagnosis over three years ago I was told at my first oncology appointment that it was incurable, having metastasised. Like many cancer patients, I soon realised that the medics, for all their undoubted knowledge, cannot gaze into a crystal ball and tell you exactly how this will play out.

Although far from easy, I am utterly convinced that to 'take one day at a time' is now the best way to live and be prepared for good days as well as not-so-good ones.

  • Hi Ian

It took 4 years on AS for me to need treatment but everyone is different. U don't say what the PSa is, I presume low. Do u know what the MRI shows in terms of tumour size?

Important thing is to monitor with regular PSA Tests and MRI.

    Regards

    Steve

  • Hi, and welcome!

There's no rule, alas, but Prostate Cancer, in the early stages, is very slow, and as others have said, you may have many years before intervention is required.

I'm sure you've been well briefed on the 'active' aspect - you know how it works. I would add that your job is to make sure that the surveillance does happen, and that you remain alert, too. I'm sure it's all very daunting now, but it will become just 'part of your life': your job is to not take it for granted, and you'll be fine.

If I can't beat this, I'm going for the draw.

Meanwhile, my priority is to live while I have the option.
