I believe that our individual cancers are as unique as our finger prints and developed in its own way . Therefore it is perhaps unwise to try and compare your cancer with those of others . I have found initial PSA readings up to 9000 Ng and the patient recovered completely. Ng stands for nanogram or one billionth of a gram . PSA takes a much more important role after treatment and it is possible to get some prognosis for yourself as you receive your regular results. A prostectomy should remove ALL the cancer cells and PSA should be zero but if some reading is still there there will be overlooked cells in the margins and prostate bed usually easily treated with a bit of RT radiotherapy. Not so with radiotherapy and hormone treatment there will always be some reading as the remaining healthy prostate continues to produce PSA .The general consensus is that less than 0.5 Ng or less is satisfactory. The time taken to nadir or lowest point appears to have some significance as regards cure or possible BCR biological cancer resistance as is the speed the recurring cancer is doubling .This velocity is highly significant but gets a tad complicated so enough for now.

Interesting Top Cat.
Quick question, we've all read about nerve sparing with prostate surgery, sometimes u can spare one side or both or sometimes neither.
How does Radiotherapy affect the same nerves, do they usually come back to life assuming that they r hit with the RT.
Just curious
Steve
Radiotherapy really shouldn't damage any nerve's they use a computer generated profile in the machine that mirrors your individual cancer that guides the beams . Extremely unlikely to damage any nerves.
So true sufferers are their own experts and hate vacuous comments. Rather be asked how they feel and what help they need.
their own experts
Too much of that around; we live in an age where genuine expertise is rejected in favour of 'feelings', and research means 20 minutes watching self-proclaimed experts on YouTube!

Please feel free to send any questions l thrive on them . It also adds to my own knowledge base . I am frequently in touch with The Christie and am writing a paper currently on PSA Anxiety. I have a lot of experience and hold MSc modules in neuroscience .brain injury and immortalised cells eg cancer. I also have a good working knowledge in strokes with a specific focus on the psychological stress suffered by the Carer . I also have a good working knowledge of benefits available to people affected by the side effects of cancer treatment not just if condition terminal. Just been awarded Attendendance Allowance top rate because of side effects of radiotherapy and hormone treatment massive difference to my finances and general mood .
thanks
would u agree that Surgery and RT both have a similar success rate between 70-80%?
do u know of any long term success rates for Hi Fu and Cryotherapy?
Steve
Hi Steve surgery Vs radiotherapy +hormone treatment share similar success your provider advice is usually the best both have about one third failure rate in terms of BCR or biochemical cancer recurrence and both have numerous secondary treatments that will work . It is important to realise that nobody can claim any cancer is cured but even at the first treatment metastatic events usually take 8 years and in only half recurring cancers occur. So he very worst scenario is at least 8 years of good quality Life and people die of other things. Arguably prostate cancer ranks second in the most treatable out of some 220 varieties . Almost all prostate cancers are adenocarcinomas although there are several others but extremely rare. Only men and dogs get prostate cancer rarely cats !
