Hello all,
My chemo journey has been relatively ok, after round 5 did get tired for 4 days had a bit of a heart rate issue but on the whole been ok . I have been able to lead a pretty normal life. In week 3 of cycle 5 had both flu and covid jabs . The specialist nurse team said better to have it than not. So had them and then final chemo last friday. Sat night started a cough , got worse and by Tuesday chemo team and i thought better get tested . Straight positive , within seconds ! possibly got exposed at blood tests or visit to the vet the previous week. It was too soon after Chemo 6 to be during Chemo. Team advised contact doctor to get AV drugs as a precaution. On line at 0800 submitted details and wait......................14.15 got call from DR who said I needed to call ABC , wasn't sure of the number or what the process was . As you can imagine an internet search for ABC wasn't that helpful. He said he would call me back . I decided to call back my hotline , they said ABC was Sussex/ Surrey Alliance for Better Care . There was a referral form you complete yourself and they then call for triage , then doctor call and then prescription sorted if Doctor happy. Chemo team mailed a link to the referral form, completed it 30mins later called by triage , 1.30hrs later by the doctor and prescription issued to agreed chemist and i picked up 45 minutes later. Great Service and reassuring as was nervous about the increased risk of infection. Oh the GP called me back after i had had the triage call with a telephone number still not sure on the system but said call this. The covid is getting better bit by bit, must admit a tough week but all in a good cause. What did i learn , take time to question the process so you understand it rather than the Chemo team saying, we would advise AV drugs you need to go through GP and saying ok . I assumed that meant GP would give me a prescription etc . If I had understood the process a bit more i would have been able to speed things up, circumvent the GP and been less stressed. Probably have got the medication 24 hrs earlier. ( There is a time limit on the medication. you have to start within 5 days of symptoms. Useful link if in Sussex Surrey https://allianceforbettercare.org/covid19-treatment/ go direct, great service . Plus the ever great service from the hotline team I am feeling a bit better and hope to be out of my isolation in the house tomorrow
Hello Rob (oldierob )
Thank you for your post - and I am pleased everything has ended up well considering the circumstances. I have just read your journey notes and you have had a good team behind you and treatment without any delays.
I wish you many low PSA tests now the chemotherapy has been completed.
Best wishes - Brian.
