Some good news today

I’m pleased to say the  6-monthly meeting with my oncologist went well today. I’m G9, 12 months post-RT and 18 months into 3 years of HT (Zoladex). She said my PSA is still undetectable and, although the lymph nodes were included in the RT plan there was a question mark over their involvement. I was aware the seminal vesicles had been irradiated ‘just in case’ but hadn't been told that before.

I asked what ‘undetectable’ actually meant. She said their machine could only read down to 0.025 and that was my last 2 readings. With some prostate still left that is apparently a really good level to be at.

I also asked about 3 yrs vs 2 years of HT. She said it’s additional efficacy is still a grey area but she wants to give it the best chance of killing off any microscopic spread. I’m happy with that

And my lymphocyte count, which had been almost half of the NHS normal minimum, is back on track.

All in all, a much better meeting outcome than I had been expecting…!

  • Good Afternoon

Great result and a positive post. Thank you for sharing the good news, it's always encouraging for others to read.

Whilst we all have a diagnosis (I like you am a Gleason 9 /T3a) it's worth pointing out we all react differently to our medication and our own journey is going to be different than someone else.

I am pleased to read you asked the question 2 or 3 years - I know just why - Quality of life, but at the end of the day, again I am pleased that you have accepted the medical advice to stick to the 3 years.

Here's to many more un-detectable PSA tests.

Thank you for your continued support around the group - it's much appreciated.

    Kind regards - Brian.
